My parents are hopelessly confused about the Account Statement that just came in and have told me to sort it out. I am (if possible) even more confused than they are, so . . . back to CC for much-needed help. Thanks, and apologies in advance for my stupidity/ignorance. There will be a lot of it; finance is not my strong point.

1.) Payments or credits: I understand the charges/debits section = how much we have to pay. The payments/credits section is how much we've paid/will pay shortly . . . ?

2.) Okay, assuming I'm correct in #1, there's a problem with the Perkins Loan: I did not apply for any student loans this year, and yet, it is listed under the "payments or credits" section of the Account Statement. I assume that I just add the Perkins Loan amount to the Total Amount Due to correct this imbalance? (Unless it's possible for the university to automatically apply for loans for me, which I don't think is possible, but . . . correct me if I'm wrong, please.)

3.) Health insurance: My parents had me submit a waiver online. However, they recently just decided that they may want me placed under the USHIP program anyways. Under the transaction description, they have nothing listed for the health insurance (I understand the Student Life Fee is something completely different), which is because I assume *they've/I assumed insurance was waived. If my parents do decide to un-waive the insurance application, do I just add the dollar amount ($2025?) to the Total Amount Due?

4.) The monthly payment plan (aka where my parents are the most confused): I assume this is the very rough estimate we provided to the Tuition Management Systems divided by three, to account for the quarter system. We have not paid this yet. We pay this separately to the TMS (in eight-month intervals, it says), yes (and it is listed in the "payments or credits" section because they expect us to have paid the full amount of this by the end of the quarter)? We just got the TMS bill today, so my dad was wondering why we have two separate bills, and I explained to him this way. If this is wrong, please explain.

Er, I think Again, thanks for sitting through this. My parents are (understandably) feeling less than happy with the Bursars Office after they saw the bill. Hah.
