PC or Mac for business undergrad?

I have my eye on an MSI laptop. It weighs 5.3 lbs., which I don't have an issue with, but I'm mostly worried about its footprint and if that may be a problem when I put it in my backpack or on the tiny lecture hall desks.

On the other hand I am considering a Mac, which would have a considerably smaller footprint and weigh only 4.5 lbs at a similar price (13.3"). The drawbacks for me would be the smaller screen (by 2"), not being able to play games (although I realize the time for that will be minimal anyways if I want good grades/a social life), and that I have little experience with Macs.

You may be wondering why not just get a smaller PC then, which would be cheaper too. Well I do want a decently powerful laptop, and after some research the MSI was the best balance between performance/portability, so I'm not really considering any other PCs.

The main factor is portability and how that applies to choosing a computer for college. Is 5 lbs. too heavy for college? How often do you bring your laptop around/for what? Would a 15" laptop do fine on the tiny lecture hall desks? Anything else I should know? Thanks in advance!

“not being able to play games”

Is that because the games you like are not ported to Mac?

I would say an MSI laptop. You have the ability to have a better gaming experience and I find it better for college. Even though it is bigger than a Mac, you seem to like the MSI better too. Plus, I believe after a little while, you might not use a laptop in the lecture hall due to distractions. Plus, you would get used to the weight anyways.

This is my opinion and from my experience along with my friends’ input. I hope you find what you like. Good Luck!!

@vonlost - I’m not planning/expecting to be able to play much, but yes there are a few. I’m aware there are Windows emulators for the Mac, but I don’t love Macs or anything so I’m not sure if it’d be worth the hassle. The entry level MacBook Pro wouldn’t even meet the minimum specs I believe.

@Goodnyte - I had thought about the distraction part myself actually. I was always planning on getting a new laptop so I’d be able to take notes on it in college, but then I realize all the people on laptops during class in HS who are just on FB. I think I will be going with the PC, thanks for the help!
