lol, Stradmom. Maybe we can send it to the glue factory… soon…

But Musicprnt is right. Compmom, you are a good, kind person. But Juilliard2013 made strong, unsupported statements attacking Peabody, and uses a screenname suggesting that he/she is a 2013 grad of Juilliard. If this is truly a 21- or 22-year-old posting, then s/he can learn from this lesson. I would suggest that learning a tough lesson on an anonymous forum populated by well-meaning grown-ups isn’t such a baad thing. I would also suggest JY13 make a different screen name, at least until the results of this year’s auditions are clear.

This forum is kinder and gentler than the real world.

IMO, it’s impossible for any single poster to unilaterally force an internet forum to shut up on a thread- not without moderator privileges. The more you tell people to stop posting, the more the thread rises to the top of the forum, the more people post. As for shutting down the thread, I don’t think anyone who responded to JY13 has violated the TOS of CC.

[edit: I just re-read and saw I wrote “baad”-- I sound like a sheep.]

I’ve got a question - how do you make a new screen name? Do you have to just start over again with a new account, or can you go somewhere to edit and change your screen name? I did look at my control panel, but I couldn’t figure it out. I was just wondering…

I think you just have to start all over again-- that’s what everyone I know has done when they wanted to change screen names. So you end up losing your seniority if you switch. I noticed that Barktokrules switched back to Compdad but when he went back to his old moniker he resumed his post count from his prior identity. Since you only have posts, it would not be traumatic to change your name now, saxlady (if you want to, that is-- when I picture your name, I think of a saxophone with female legs, as in an old Looney Tunes cartoon. For Bartokrules, I always want to ask, “Well, what are the rules?”)

Clever GH. I didn’t look at that way. I guess one of the rules is as I stated when I reintroduced myself as Bartokrules which was and still is that Pop music is not the only modern music. This was in response to a post that seemed to infer otherwise. For a new screen name, you just start over. All I lost was post count.

GlassHarmonica and Compdad, thanks for the replies. But now I am a JUNIOR member (everyone ooh and ahh…), and if I change monikers, I guess I’d become a new member again…sigh. I guess I’ll just be the person I am - the saxlady. Sort of reminds me of a baglady! :0

Saxlady, if you change, it won’t take long to be a junior member again. I had enough posts as Compdad before Bartokrules that I didn’t lose status going back. Don’t think of yourself as a baglady but as a busker lady. Lots of nobility in that!

Saxlady-

Just think of it as becoming young again, and it won’t feel as bad lol

I’m sorry Musicprnt, but I thought we had set a 150 word minimum for your posts! :)

Lol, Compdad! Musicprnt’s posting minimum is one of our Bartok Rules. (We all love Musicprnt’s wonderful, long posts. I just wish he had some vowels leftover for his screenname.)

Know what you mean GH. At first I thought he was a music publisher (printer) and his depth and wealth of knowledge supported that thought.

My moniker doesn’t mean I’m currently at Juilliard. Instead, I’m hoping to go there for grad school in the fall of 2013. I can contact the administration and ask to have my user name changed if that would make others on here happy.

Since I’ve been at Peabody, I’ve had problems, administratively, with virtually every office there. I’m not alone in my sentiments either. Ask the students about getting courses, teachers, and scheduling changed when they’ve needed it. The offices are mostly staffed by other musicians who graduated from the school. It’s an internal mess in my opinion and some administratively trained people would be helpful to keep things running efficiently.

I’d also like to add that some of us aren’t so fortunate to have our parents looking out for us at every whim. Some of us are doing this completely on our own and without any parental intervention. It’s college after all, and it was just pointed out by a kind parent that I’m also an adult. My point is that when things continually get mucked up, whether it be the financial aid office, registrar, advising, business office, or messing with the dean, some of us are completely on our own to take care of that on top of courses, concerts, orchestra, and everything else. It ain’t fun and when NOTHING gets done and you’ve been given the run around, then it tends to make one angry. Rant over!

Juilliard-

Thanks for clarifying, your last post makes clear the problems you had, and having dealt with bureaucratic snafus, runarounds and less then stellar desk jockeys, I sympathize. More importantly, it makes clear what you were talking about, and I think that is going to be helpful to others.

I agree, juilliard. I would certainly think twice about accepting a spot at Peabody-- and do a lot more research-- after reading what you have written. The reason I suggested changing your name is that it sounds as if you are a senior graduating from Juilliard this spring. So it is bound to confuse people. Especially if you decide to go to a Master’s program other than Juilliard’s.

To those who didn’t want to believe that Peabody ever had serious problems in the past, this came to our email today:

"Dear Peabody Community,

You may have heard from President Daniels about the death of former Johns Hopkins President, Dr. Steven Muller. Many of you will have been here to witness first-hand how President Muller helped rescue Peabody by arranging first an affiliation that resulted in Peabodys becoming a full division of Johns Hopkins University. At the same time, President Muller worked with the Governors office to have the State purchase the Peabody Art Collection and with our own Trustees to do a matching fund-raising drive, which together created a new core endowment for the Peabody Institute.

I was grateful to have known President Muller and each time I saw him, thanked him for keeping Peabodys doors open so that it could remain one of the foremost institutes of music in the world.

I offered to President Mullers widow, Dr. Jill McGovern, that we would dedicate one of our concerts to Steven Muller. I left her with the concert guide and will await her choice. At that concert we will celebrate Steven Mullers lasting legacy to Johns Hopkins and especially to the Peabody Institute.

Yours sincerely,
