Peace Corps

I'm interested in joining the peace corps. I was wanting to do it over the summer, upon high school graduation. Can I do it for 3months, or at least until I go to college. Or do I have to stay there for a longer period of time?

I believe you have to be 18 and graduate high school before you can join. I'm not sure where they send you or how everything works out.

Kinglin,
A commitment to the Peace Corps is for 27 months, three months of training and two years of service. You must be eighteen years old and a U.S. citizen, but you also need a bachelor's degree or solid experience in agriculture, business, or other useful areas.

You don't need a bachelor's degree, it's just preferred so that you'd have more to offer.

there is a program called americorps that i think is kinda similar, but only in the us, and i think u can do it for just the summer.

Yes, that's what I was trying to make clear; you need either a bachelor's degree or experience, except for some rare cases.

Americorps is different from the Peace Corps. It's a network of different programs, and you can live at home and participate in them. I think you can do it for more than a summer. This is probably a more practical option for high school graduates.

peace corps is dumb because they dont let you choose where you go.. if you could apply to a certain country it would be worth taking a look at.

americorps looks like such a boring job.. a lady from there visited my health class to talk about suicide.. hmm.

With AmeriCorps, can I just do it on weekends? Because I don't want it to affect my school work, along with my sports.

You can apply for part-time work, or restricted part-time work, but I'm not sure how many hours that is.

If you wanted to only do something on the weekends, you could volunteer with one of AmeriCorp's member organizations so you wouldn't have to work a fixed number of hours.

there probably is a large amount of volunteer opportunities available in your town
