Ok, so I'm a junior from suburb (no option for minority scholarship programs)

My academic record is bizarre--all honors freshman year but did poorly, two AP sophomore year plus 3 "A-level" courses (school has from low-->high levels: R, A, H/AP) in which I did not fare much better. This year, with 3 AP courses and 2 A-levels, I have an A-average in everything but AP Latin in which I have a middle B. So my unweighted GPA for the first five semesters of high school is only 3.08, but weighted on a 7.0 scale it's about 5.55.

My SATs, taken only once:
Critical Reading--750
Math--710
Writing--790
(12 on essay)

Also, I have been a section editor on my school's award-winning newspaper since sophomore year and have a solid chance of being editor-in-chief next year. I won first place for opinion writing in the state during my freshman year.

So my extracurriculars are solid (I'm also holding a job), my SAT scores are great, and my cumulative GPA is lousy. But I've shown improvement this year in a big way, and demonstrated that I can absolutely excel in a rigorous courseload...at least, I hope admissions will see it that way.

NYU? Tufts? Johns Hopkins? Swarthmore?
