Hi! I will be an upcoming sophomore…I was at Peddie last year. What are you confused about? Maybe I can help!

I actually have a lot, hope you don’t mind…

When do we sign up for clubs? You know, things like orchestra, choir, newspaper…?
Also, what do we do in the course “Community Life?”
Oh and umm, I want to take Chinese, but that’d mean I’d have to start from the basics… Do you know perhaps if you can still take AP classes if you start from the very beginning?

Just curious, what sport do you do? :p

So, for clubs, you should call the school and say you would like to add orchestra/chorus to your course load. Orchestra and Chorus are considered classes, so they meet 4 times a week like any other class. Newspaper is a club, and you will attend meetings for the clubs that you like when school begins.

Community Life is a health class. In the first term you focus mainly on school rules, smoking, drugs, etc. The second term you focus on sexual education. It meets 2 times a week.

If you start from the beginning of Chinese, I believe you will have to skip a level (do extra work over a summer) to get to AP Chinese. I’m not sure if Chinese 4 is AP. I decided to take up Chinese, so I will be in Chinese I and Latin 3 as as sophomore. You should ask the school.

I am not a big sports person, so I plan on managing JV softball for my second year. Other than that, I don’t do sports. Instead, I focus my energy into academics and non-athletic extra-curriculars.
