Peddie, Miss Porter's & Choate - Recent Scandals, Bullying and school policy

I recently got accepted to Peddie, Miss Porter's & Choate. If you are a current student, please let me know if you're encountering any trouble at school (Bullying, etc.); I love all three schools, but I'm just wondering if the negative incidents posted on the web are still occurring today.
Please let me know if the school has a zero tolerance policy against bullying/cyberbullying, thanks.

Most student handbooks are available on the school website.

Well that was a bit harsh. I believe that OP is asking about the reality vs. what is in print, which I feel is a valid question. As I have no stake in these 3 I cannot answer, but hopefully some can.

Not harsh at all. If she wants to know if a school has a zero tolerance it’s easy to look up!

She also wants to know what its actually like on campus in addition to policies.

And I’m sure people will weigh in! :)

What are “the negative incidents posted on the web”? If the school dealt with the incident punitively, then you know they take their conduct policy seriously.

@PhotographerMom I did not mean to be rude in my comment, I was just letting you know in case you had any information for the OP. If I was rude in any way I apologize.

Miss Porter’s scandal which has been discussed in this forum

Peddie scandal

<a href=“The Epoch Times - Truth & Tradition. Fact Based. Unbiased. Accurate News”>The Epoch Times - Truth & Tradition. Fact Based. Unbiased. Accurate News;

@needtoboard - You weren’t rude at all! No need to apologize!!

I will try to reassure the OP and others by saying that all schools ( including schools not involved ) have learned from these incidents and have gone to great lengths to educate students, parents and faculty. Many (if not all) have brought in organizations like http://campusoutreachservices.com/</a> in order to create awareness and reinforce what is clearly outlined in the student handbook.

I can assure you that every BS has had their fair share of scandals ( 100+ years worth!) but not all of them were covered by the NYT, Daily Beast or Vanity Fair in gory graphic detail. It’s important to remember that inappropriate or unfortunate behavior can happen anywhere at anytime. If students can’t follow the rules they will be asked to leave. I find the language in most Student Handbooks very black and white with few gray areas. Most are written or approved by the school’s legal council. All schools take any form of bullying or harassment seriously and strive to create the safest possible environment for their students.

Sometimes, the safest place to be is a school recovering from a scandal. Not always, but often an incident is followed by hyper vigilance.

Thanks for replying. I read about the incidents that occurred at all three schools recently and I the past. I’m just wondering if anyone on CC is currently a victim of bullying at Choate, Porter’s or Peddie. If so, what has the school done to resolve the issue, thanks

@boardinggirl14 I’m sure there are cases of bullying in most BSes. However, you have to ask yourself- is it worth the risk? (I severely doubt SERIOUS cases of bullying are being committed. Hazing results in expulsion in most schools.) Will I not apply to these schools because of POTENTIALLY being bullied? Or do the pros outweigh the POTENTIAL con?

@ boardingschoolx, thanks for your feedback. I’m scheduled to visit all three schools this week and I’ll see how it goes. Thanks again.

As everyone was saying, in a utopian world, bullying wouldn’t occur, but, in reality, I think that no matter what school you go to, there will be some form of bullying, usually small. It’s unfortunate, but I wouldn’t expect a complete bully-free zone in these schools.

That being said, this shouldn’t discourage you from going/applying, you’ll make friends that last, and if you are a victim, then the school will find a way to deal with that.

@boardinggirl14 You’re welcome! I sincerely hope you do well!

@mrnephew I LOVE YOUR PROFILE PICTURE. (It’s Harvey from “Suits”, right?)

One thing schools have done that has reduced hazing is to have separate upperclassmen & lowerclassmen dorms.

Haha @boardingschoolx yup it’s Harvey. My fav character in all of tv.
