Peer Evaluation Dilema

Okay, here's an interesting one. My friend applied to Dartmouth last minute on a whim, and asked me to write him a peer evaluation today, knowing full well there is no way for it to be completed on the deadline and that it will be late. He says he doesn't think it will bother them if its postmarked tomorrow since it isn't technically "him" sending it. I'd have no problem writing the rec... he's a very smart kid and there's nothing not to like.
However, as someone who has already applied to Dartmouth myself (and sent all applicable materials in on time) I'm worried that writing a "late" peer evaluation will reflect badly on me. Will Dartmouth see that I wrote a late evaluation for a friend and put a black mark on my name, or will they place the responsibility for the tardiness on him, where it belongs?

What would you do?

You are WAY too paranoid. Really, you’ll be fine.

The people opening and filing the application materials are not admissions counselors, or anyone who will ever actually read your application. Admissions counselors don’t see postmark dates, or even when the materials were received, with the exception of online materials.

My question to the OP is: Does Dartmouth allow people who are applying this year to write a rec for someone else that is applying? I don’t know if Dartmouth compares you to other people in your region, but if they did, that would be kinda weird.

Yes, Dartmouth allows anyone to write a peer evaluation. The peer eval’s purpose is to give Dartmouth more info about the applicant.

And it won’t hurt you or your friend to have the peer evaluation arrive a few days late.

Just send it.
