Peer Evaluation Pointers?

Does anyone know about peer evaluation? I think it is often an optional supplementary material. For colleges where this is not an explicitly stated requirement, would it be at your advantage to submit one? (I have a really smart friend)
If so, how do most peers approach the question? For example, would you say "Why would this person contribute to the campus?"

i don't think it's that important at all...

Since some schools require it, I think that peer evaluations do add to an application. To be honest, if you aren't a bastard, and you have good friends who like you and know you well, I think you should do it.

It doesn't matter whether the friend is smart; the rec won't be evaluated on its prose. I think it's always helpful to get that extra viewpoint to understand where the applicant is coming frm and who he/she really is.

Your friend could write about your vitality or your honestly or your talents or your thirst for knowledge or how you're always there when a friend is in need. Your friend who writes it can choose what he/she thinks is most important to convey.

spectrum, which schools that youve looked at ask for peer evaluation?

I am not sure if any of them asked. I haven't looked too into depth even though I probably should. Panoramically speaking I'm looking at the Ivies and a few other top ones. I just thought that peer evals can add a nice touch to the thousands of applications ADCOM receives.

Dartmouth asks for them, I think.

Dartmouth asks for them as a requirement or an expectation?

Oh yeah btw corranged I am not a bastard.

Dartmouth does indeed. Just get sumone u know very well. They want the prose... get sumone who knows u inside out not someo0ne who admires you and will write

"He is the sun and the moon
"he is the beginning and the end
"He He is later and the soon
"He is truly godsend

(okay... exagetrrated, and make sure it doesnt rhyme ;)

Haha. Good to know, Spectrum. Then I can't see how the peer evaluation can hurt you. :)

I'm not sure whether they require them, but I think they do. My sister (who is now at Dartmouth) sent one.

Antarius what exactly do you mean by prose? Wouldn't first person narration be the most logical choice though? Or should the peer take a much more serious approach?

Good job with your sister Corranged. Care to post her stats? Or at least what schools did she apply to? What is your status right now?

"He doest not know fear
"His wisdom one must hear
"He changes not his gear
"He can only endear
"He maketh a great peer
"Nothing comes out of his rear

Williams lets you submit them as an optional.

He is the sun and the moon
"he is the beginning and the end
"He He is later and the soon
"He is truly godsend"

he is....Chuck Norris....ok im done lol

I don't really remember her stats! She had a 1460 SAT, and her SAT IIs were from the mid 600s up through the mid 700s, I think. She took the hardest classes available, which only included AP US History (4). She never had below a B, and most of her grades were As and A-s. She played three Varsity sports but none at the recruiting level. She took piano lessons, and she was active in martial arts. Her essay was good. She's a cheerful girl who works hard, so I'm sure her recs were good. She was accepted at Notre Dame and Dartmouth, was waitlisted at Columbia, and was denied from Georgetown and Stanford.

As for me, none of my colleges let me know until next week!

Optional at Connecticut College

Would peer evaluation be of at least half the weight of a teacher eval?
Anyone submitted peer evals to the Ivies or other top colleges? How did your peers tackle the eval?
Thanks

Peers are probably applying to the same Ivies.

So you mean they can intentionally sabotage you so they could get in? That's sick. Plus, if one can't identify that kind of indecency within a peer, he cannot be ready for college.

No, I mean it would be unfair to ask them to write a peer evaluation. A situation came up this admission season and it was decided to leave well enough alone and not ask. Of course, with Dartmouth you try and find someone else, since it's required.

I would recommend sending it for Williams, even if it is optional. They do not have an interview, so any more information on who you are will help.

Thanks everyone. But does anyone have direct experience with peer evaluations? Any suggestions and pointers on "DO"s and "DONT"s will be much appreciated.
