@mom2collegekids, students who have not used 100% of their Pell grant in fall/spring can use the rest in summer, assuming summer is a trailer (end of award year). If a student begins school in summer at a trailer school, he can get Pell for 15-16 (up to 50%, depending on credit load) - then have 100% of 16-17 Pell for fall/spring. Someone upstream said the $850 is the state award, and that makes sense.
Yes, if he checked the PHEAA portal then it shows your PA state grant award. It is supplemental to Pell so if his Pell grant covers most of CC tuition he would not have much remaining need, hence a small state grant.
He will have to be careful that he takes and passes 12 credits per semester to continue receiving the state grant.
And unlike Pell it is only available for up to 8 semesters.
