Penn 2017 ED Discussion Thread

^ Not necessarily more competitive, but comparable. I’ve heard Dean Furda state that upwards of 80% of all applicants to Penn are objectively qualified for admission (again, presumably based on criteria such as scores, grades, recommendations, etc.). That is, Penn–and other selective schools–have more than enough applicants to fill their entering classes many times over with comparably “qualified” students. Therefore, it becomes a much more holisitic process that looks at other things such as diversity of background and experience and interests, and the need to fill out campus organizations such as orchestras, theater groups, sports teams, newspapers, etc. So whether you’re looking at 4-5,000 objectively qualified applicants, or 27,000, you still have similar choices to make, and these schools have figured out how to put together qualified, well-rounded entering classes from their various applicant pools year after year.

Well you have to also keep in mind about the differences in yeild. Lets just assume ED has a yield of 100% and RD about 40%, so the about 50% of the class is admitted ED and 125% of the class is admitted RD.

^ Last year, RD yield was actually about 47%, and about 113% of the final class total was admitted RD, but your point is basically correct. :)

haha @Wharton3, they just want to confuse you.

You can pre-order the score before it is released (go to collegeboard.org, click on send score next to Nov test, then select schools on next page). Then the report will be sent to penn on the 2nd day, and in this case it would be 12/5.

Or if you want to see the score yourself first, then you will have to wait until 12/4 12:00 midnight (lol). You then place a rush order on the same day. It takes 2 business days for a rush order. penn should get it on 12/6. So timing wise there might be 1 day difference.

ok so when wharton says that they take close to 500 kids, do they mean including M&T and dual degree programs or are those kids seperate?

kids matched through Questbridge know already, so decisions are near my friends

kids matched through Questbridge already know the date on which the decision will be released? Or the decision itself?

^The decision itself.

Wow! How! Why! Why again!

'Tis for the best, Madaboutx

^lol - I guess we’ll know when we know.

yeah… nothing left to do but wait for friday/next wednesday. Got my weep corner prepped.

gahh I hate waiting. If they have the results why can’t they just post them already?

@Zeruel95 - same here…got my blanket and a box of sad movies on stand-by for the 12th (Y)

Just hope for the best and to put this in perspective, remember, the RD applicants will have it much worse, and in much larger quantities.

Apparently, Columbia is releasing its decisions on Thursday. Anyone think Penn will change to the 7th? Sooner?

^At this point, I think it’s doubtful. A few posters have said that they called admissions and they reaffirmed the 12th. I think we would have received an email by now if it was going to be on the 7th.

Eric Furda worked at Columbia before… this might mean something… jk guys i’m killing you i know

^ lolololol okay that was funny

Anyone else wish Penn had student blogs like MIT does?
