Penn 2017 ED Discussion Thread

why couldn’t they have released results tomorrow? why? I can’t wait 6 more days

^Because they hate us. :/

In all seriousness, nobody really knows lol. If I had to guess, it probably has something to do with financial aid packages.

I feel truly bad for the Dartmouth and Columbia applicants. It sucks that they are so qualified and worked so hard and they didn’t get to go to their top choice school. We have been taught that if we go 110% in high school that we can go to a great college, but nowadays, that just isn’t the case.

Actually, Penn’s ED acceptance rate was 25% last year, and Penn NEVER accepts more than 1200 applicants during the ED round, not just this year (Penn accepted 1,146 applicants during the ED round last year). It’s possible that the ED acceptance rate could fall a point or so this time to 24%, but I wouldn’t expect it to fall much more than that.

And the bottom line is that the ED acceptance rates of Penn, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Brown are all so close as to be quite comparable.

^^Oh, I don’t think it’s just Dartmouth or Columbia applicants exclusively. Come December 12th, that’ll probably be the same case for many of us here on the CC Penn forum… :frowning: There’s just too many qualified applicants for only so many spaces.

^^and that is why we’re all extremely nervous. It truly is a complete crapshoot.

^^Meh, I’m sure they’ll still go to pretty good colleges. I think in CC we tend to forget that there really ARE decent colleges that aren’t insanely difficult to get into.

How do these colleges decide who to accept? I don’t understand.

And also, remember that we don’t see these people’s essays, which have often proven to be the determining factor

Are there any more articles about Penn admissions this year?

I hope that the admissions people are gonna put a lot of emphasis on the engage academically essay… that’s the one where you can clearly see if the students wants to go to penn

Man, a friend of mine just got accepted to Dartmouth. Here’s to hoping I have the same good fortune she had. >__>

Well, if the kid is applying ED…

Hmm…for some weird reason, I’ve suddenly become a lot more relaxed about this. More at peace. Maybe it’s Frank Ocean.

Just reread this entire thread from August 15 til now.

…instead of doing calc homework. So much for priorities ;)

Can’t believe it’ll all be over in one week. (Either it’ll mark the end of the entire college-application process, or it’ll be the beginning of a dozen other applications.)

im so afraid (and have been for awhile), and my family/friends are ready to put me in some insane asylum! haha and seriously, does the date really have to be 12/12/12? its sure gonna be one heck of a memorable day

Friend at my school got accepted to Columbia… happy for him
but not helping with my nerves at all

^same here. the pressure’s on for me to get that acceptance.

how will our decisions be presented? When we log in will their be a letter telling us our decision or a plain accepted/rejected? Does anyone know from previous years?

hope it will be tmr

Everyone I feel the nerves as well. Today took extremely long to get over with. May the odds be ever in our favor
