My essay took the position “immovable” and I have to say it was pretty bomb. I used an extended metaphor about a seed growing into a tree (I’m an environmental science major). I thought that mover was the only right choice at first, and I thought using all 3 would be the easy way around the question, so I stuck with one

pstrett, I live in West Philly and don’t find the neighborhood dangerous at all, especially the neighborhood around Penn. It’s honestly pretty suburban.

If you’re afraid of black people, then West Philly is not a good neighborhood for you (and you shouldn’t go to Penn). But it’s not a dangerous place.

Dear 45 Percenter:

As shown in the report: http://www.publicsafety.upenn.edu/assets/AnnualReports/2011-Annual-Report.pdf

In 2011, PennComm processed 104,373 total emergency calls.
It shows the total # of 911 calls to Phila Police processed by Penn Police to be 1, 592.

Thats a LOT!!!

Perhaps this site will help you understand the crimes at UPENN. There is a lot of theft, assualt, burglary and robbery. I wish the site would break down the types of robbery but alas, no luck there. The map only shows 4 years of data and yet its covered with icons.

[Philadelphia Crime Map - Showing Crime in University of Pennsylvania, PA - Crime Statistics - Crime Alerts - Crime Stops Here](http://ucrime.com/pa/university+of+pennsylvania)

I think they could do a better job stopping these types of crimes by keeping the ‘bad element’ off campus. Recently I spotted 2 homeless people sleeping across from the Quad and nobody said a word. These people have nothing to lose and everything to gain by stealing. I think they do! That is just a VERY smaller examples.

I am willing to concede the secutiy team does a good job but they need to do a GREAT job on a campus with this history and esteem. It would be nice to have Yale’s walls around UPENN or at least on the far western side.

^What’s the purpose of your ■■■■■ obsession? It won’t be long before 45% answers your ■■■■■ nonsense. Aren’t you tired of him/her making you look silly?

What happened to you pstrett? What even precipitated this?

pstreet is stalking the Penn threads trashing Penn security etc. It’s kinda childish.

Its really bad because there is very little going on that common sense wouldn’t prevent.

Most victims of crime, in general, are people who left themselves vulnerable - drunk, alone, taking a shortcut, lost in bad neighborhood, etc.

I don’t mind pstrett saying crime exists but he exaggerates it and offers no solutions, just complaints and derision. If this is really a concern, instead of anonymous postings, why not set up a student task force or student escort service or student watch for suspicious behavior. (Note: I made two assumptions - that these kinds of thing don’t already exist and that pstrett is a student. I dont know if either is the case).

Are you moved, a mover or an immovable nuisance is my question?

And personally…I thought Penn security was substantial and satisfactory. I worked at HUP for a number of years and walked campus and the surrounding areas many times with zero incidents.

Where exactly??

i wish there was a formula to get into penn

No formula. There is an elegance about it.

How competitive do you guys think the applicant pool is for ED Penn given the fairly high acceptance rate?

Look at the stats. The admit rate doesn’t mean it’s more or less competitive. The students are accepted at almost all schools in the ED/EA round at almost double the rate in the RD round. Schools want to commit to kids who want to commit to them. Stats in either round are comparable.
