Is Basketball particularly popular among students at Penn? Do they play often and have intramural/other tournaments? Is there an abundance of courts on campus?

Yes. Basketball is a very popular sport in the US. Plenty of open gym time to play, various IM leagues to participate… Penn has great facilities for just about any Olympic type sport I can think of and of course major world sports like cricket and rugby too.
