I'm having a really tough time deciding between these two schools. Part of the problem is that I'm not 100% certain on what type of career I will be pursuing.

If anyone could share any info at all on pre-med and/or business at Dartmouth and/or Penn... it would be very appreciated!

IMO, Dartmouth is the better option. Think about it this way - while both schools are probably equally good for premed, business at Penn is probably only better than Dartmouth if we are talking about Wharton. On the other hand, Dartmouth’s business school is also fantastic (great UG economics). Dartmouth’s liberal arts program allows for more room for indecisiveness.

In summary, both schools are fine for premed, but Dartmouth beats out Penn CAS for business. Therefore, Dartmouth wins.

Penn CAS is also good for a business career–easily as good as Dartmouth. Penn’s Economics Department has long been ranked as one of the top 10 in the country, and Penn CAS has many other top-10 and top-20 liberal arts departments. Not to mention that Penn CAS students can also take Wharton courses (and list them as such on their resumes), as well as take advantage of the tremendous on-campus recruiting that Wharton draws to Penn (and which is NOT restricted to Wharton undergrads). And under Penn’s “One University” policy, they can also take courses in Penn’s other undergraduate schools (Nursing and Engineering), as well in most of Penn’s graduate schools (including the law school!), which is NOT something that can be done at Dartmouth.

But bottom line? Both Penn AND Dartmouth provide phenomenal undergraduate liberal arts educations that prepare students well for either business OR medical school (or any number of other futures and careers). So what you really need to do is focus not on the academics (again, phenomenal at both schools), but rather on the overall experience at the schools, including size, location, campus and campus life, etc. These schools are quite different in that regard, obviously. So decide on which campus environment would make you happiest, and would be the place at which you’d best thrive both academically and socially, and that will be your answer. It’s that simple.

If you want to do research in the medical school, assuming you decide to pursue the pre med route, Penn’s medical school has a lot of opportunities and is right on campus. It is also very superior to Dartmouth’s medical school.
