Any CGS students out there? I'd love to hear your experience with the program and what you like/dislike about it. I've been admitted and am looking for some info on the program.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Firstly, note that CGS has changed its name. The new name is Penn College for Liberal and Professional Studies.

You have a choice. If you're a working person who has a family and your obligations only allow you to attend at night, you'll get the education, but not the full Penn experience. Not sure if it's the Penn experience you seek or just the Penn degree (or both). The classes are tailored more to the adult student who hasn't attended college in a while, so the pace and intensity of those courses are somewhat less intense (which explains why the only CLPS class I took was hijacked by younger CAS students who usually attend during the day, and it STILL WASN'T EASY).

Now, if you are an adult student who does not have the obligations that a homeowner with children would have, you could quite easily live on campus and attend mostly day classes. By doing this, you would have the Penn experience at the palm of your hands. Either way, there is no substantial difference between CLPS and any other school at Penn. I believe it to be the best adult-education school among all the Ivies because they really don't promote the differences. You've got as much access to career svcs. and counseling svcs. as any other Penn student. I wish you all the best, you will enjoy it I'm sure.

Thanks! When are they changing the name? My acceptance letter still said CGS. Odd ...

arabella265, the same with me... my acceptance letter says CGS on it too. Are you going for the fall 2008 term or spring 2009?

Sep. 16 the new name goes into effect. That's when there will be an official launch event and you should receive an email with information about it.

Thanks - I talked to a counselor today and she said it's changing because of the type of programs and students - Liberal and Professional Studies because they are also including Master's programs. Interesting.

Yea, summertime - I sent you a pm.

I was admitted provisionally into the CGS, I mean the CLPS. I need to get a B- overall in 4 classes in order to stay in. Morning classes are WAY more expensive than evening classes, and you can only request a tuition match if that's a class required to complete your major.

I'm living on campus and planing to move on in a week or so. I plan to do a lot of extracurriculars and get involved into social activities, specially those with the Latinamerican population.

^I'm latinamerican. what activities do you have in mind? I'm trying to get more involved on campus, so it might work for both of us.

I Agree with you, it would work fine!

The kind of activities I want to be involved in are: Education, especially arts and English as a second language, advocacy, disease prevention (Diabetes, aids, cancer) and stuff like that for the Latino community in the area. I volunteer for a non-profit here in Rhode Island, and that's what I do.

I love art, so anything that involve art would be ok with me, Especially music, theatre, film and photography. Do you know of any latin film club there? I like Latinamerican films, particulary Spanish, Mexican, Argentinian and Chilean films.

Where are you from? I'm from the Dominican Republic.

This is an interesting thread. My son will be starting at Penn this fall and I've wondered if older students (like 40's and 50's) attend Penn. I'd really be tempted to apply with the intention of working on a master's degree if it wasn't for the fact that we live 3000 miles from the campus.

william, I sent you a PM, to avoid hijacking this thread
