@shivaya I’ve heard the thing about it being theoretical as well. That would favor me as a Philosophy major lol.
I really like everyone on this thread, i know this won’t happen but how cool would it be if we all got in and were like friends
@jarrett211 - Looks like we might be in similar boats:-). I also did EA to UChicago. Chose the essay on paradoxes (Essay option 2).
Speaking of which, completely random question, did anyone whose applying to UChicago apply for FA and fill out the CSS? They sent me an email saying you could fill out the CSS or the UChicago financial aid supplement, but once I logged in to the UChicago portal, it said the Financial Aid worksheet is required. Does it say required for everyone and i just don’t have to fill it out, or do I need to fill it out?
@VaishS That would be (dare I say) dope.
I also did EA to Chicago. I asked my own question for the essay.
CSS replaces UChi financial supplement
I did. If you check your email, its either/OR. CSS Profile charges money but the worksheet is free. So, they gave a choice.
Awesome thanks guys been wondering that for weeks now.
Another UChi question, does anyone know when we are supposed to find out? Like is there a date?
I also did UChi EA and I chose the prompt that was basically like: “pick a so-called untranslatable word from another language and explain why it should not and cannot be translated” This stems from the prompt that allows me to choose any past essay prompt in honor of their 125th anniversary.
How did you guys do your favorite books for UChi? I said a few of each category and then expanded on them. Other friends of mine, however, just sent a list with no explanations.
@ComputerAge To be honest, I stand no chance of getting into UChicago. Nor looking back on it do I think it’s really a fit for me, so I just sent a list with no explanations, but according to the admissions counselor who came to my school, he said the ones that answered the question successfully expanded the answer. I guess that shows in all honesty how I much I want to go there lol. But seriously, so many people do lists that I don’t think it would be that bad if someone did that. But expanded answers are probably better.
@VaishS - if you did EA (UC), the date is around Dec 17th.
Did anyone get interviewed with UC?
I just got emailed for my interview with Penn. @shivaya My interview with Chicago is on the 14th.
My thoughts are- it is holistic in that a 2000 SAT 3.9 Gpa might get in if they can show outstanding EC’s pertaining to how their passion affects community involvement and how specifically they would bring that EC passion and community involvement to Penn.
We know someone who was accepted to Wharton with a 2050 SAT 3.9 uw gpa and a fashion blog that had 27,000 followers/mo and now was getting paid ads (you can make easily 36k +yr doing this…) her Penn essay was about bringing her fashion blog to Penn’s Fashion week… she had no other business experience … and standard EC’s after that but her essay tied in her passion w her fit at Penn
Thats the kind of EC’s I think make a difference- a niche that you can bring a perspective that will positively make a difference in Penn’s community and the community outside of Penn…
My thoughts are GPA/school/curriculum> SAT>EC’s > Essays Penn> Common App>Recs I think 1 out of 7 essay bc most essays are pretty good and1 out of 7 will deter them (due to poor writing/organization etc) and also 1 out of 7 will increase chances upgrading the applicant
For the Mock Trial people out there Mock Team in son’s school last year was rated 9th in nation and interesting 5 members of the team were accepted into Ivies… I think Mock Trial can be big if your team places well in state/nation and mock trial seems to be well regarded by top schools! Teaches you how to think on your feet great for many different areas…
@jarrett211 Yeah, I feel that. Honestly, I applied because 1. it’s a good school 2. they accept approx. 40 kids from my school per year and 3. i liked the essay prompts. But I’ve heard that the workload at UChi is insane compared to my high school (which is very hard) and also that UChi is more of theoretical thinking than not. I would go there under some circumstances, but it’s not at the top of my list.
@shivaya I did! My interviewer however was a transfer (he only got to UC his junior year) so it was a bit bland and it could’ve gone a lot better. I’m generally articulate and verbose, but I guess I didn’t have much to say about UC since I’m not too crazy about it.
I sent UChi an interview request thing over a month ago and haven’t heard anything, kinda worried but nothing I can do
anyone else in the same boat?
and thanks @shivaya
@runswimyoga I think that you just reinforced the point that the Penn essay > EC’s. If it is bringing a new perspective to the university that helps so much, that is seen through the essay, not the EC’s.
I just had my interview! I’m honestly not sure how it went
