*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

Well there’s the writing section and the essay section… although your essay is factored into your writing, I think they still look at writing.

yeah i have no chance going here :frowning:

@ComputerAge So you think the writing section (the grammar) is still looked at on the current SAT, but not the essay?

Did everyone else take the subject test?

Yeah I took them but I didn’t do too hot (700-720 for all three)

@jarrett211 I think it’s glanced at, but it won’t make much of a difference.

Quick q to y’all: I’m generally excellent at advanced math but I HATE the SAT math section. I got a 2300 on the SAT – 800 CR, 710 M, and 790 W. I know my 710 M is low for Penn (especially for Wharton where math is key) but I received an 800 on SAT Math 2 and I’ve never received below a 97 in higher math. One of my recs is also from my precalc teacher. That 710 won’t hurt me too much, right? A UMich rep once told me that a 800 in Math 2 will make up for a bad SAT Math score.

@ComputerAge ya I think u are good, but how does that happen lol?

yeah def, dont worry about it @ComputerAge

the curve for the section is very punitive… I got two grid-ins wrong because of stupid mistakes:

  1. Forgot to multiply by 2
  2. Incorrect addition

Have your schools traditionally sent a lot of people to Penn? We had one person get in Early last year.

Normally we get 2-3 per year, but in 2013 we had 6 get in. We have about a 27% ED acceptance rate at my school.

we had 9 people get in ED last year

Also, i had a question. I forgot to submit my AP scores on my common app, and I didn’t take any subject tests. I am worried that a have them nothing to go off of, interestingly enough I did mention AP scholar with honor award on the honors part. Though I think my rank, gpa, and SAT do speak for themselves, do you guys think I’m in a bind?

@jaimk123 you should be good since your an AP scholar with honor. i wouldn’t worry about it

Over the last two years (since we only started Naviance for Class of 2014) we’ve had a 23% accept rate for ED. This is lower than it actually is using historical aggregate data for the last decade because the Class of 2015 was notoriously “less qualified” for college than my year or the Class of 2014.

Average accepted GPA is 95.41 ED, lowest accepted is 94.42 ED. Average SAT 1600 is 1514 ED, average SAT 2400 is 2244 ED.

0 people from my school district have ever gone to Penn :((

And @jaimk123 thats not good :frowning: maybe email them about it just so they know?

My HS is only 4 years old but highly rated. 2 or 3 people have gotten admission in the past years but they chose to go elsewhere. However, I know people from my district have gone to UPenn.

This year I am the only one with ED to UPenn. Not sure if it improves my chances.

I didn’t know we were supposed to do extended stats, but if anyone was curious about stats, here are mine: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1815927-chance-me-upenn-ed-uchicago-ea-columbia-rd-and-others-p1.html

Context of my school: 8/31 have been accepted ED over the past 5 years from my school. The average UW accepted GPA from my school is 3.73, and the average accepted weighted is 4.62/5.

My school has had around a 30% acceptance rate ED. Overall SAT Scores 2100/1400 About 5 kids per year get in. Does anyone know how we can confirm that Penn received subject test scores?

@Dilan412 The only way to confirm it is through the College Board.
