there’s no actual form to fill out…we just end up writing up half to one page on our impressions, thoughts, etc. about the candidates. No numerical stuff either.

just submitted my last one a few minute ago…had some great candidates this year. I ended up doing 4 ED interviews…1 was not a good fit, two were great candidates, and 1 was just stellar.

Honestly, it’s rather subjective…you just kind of know. Having gone to Penn you can generally get a sense for the type of people that make a positive contribution to student life so when you interview someone just based on their personality, the things they talk about, etc. you can get a feel for how stellar the candidate is…irrelevant of stats.

For example, I interviewed a person last year and in the first 5 minutes I could tell that they just would not be someone that would bring any value to penn. He seemed liked a smart enough guy, however, he lacked a personality, lacked ambition, wasn’t passionate about anything, etc.

The people that I find stellar are those that I think “wow this person would have been amazing to work with, be in classes with, go to social events with, etc. etc.” It’s kind of like an airport test…if my flight was delayed and I were stuck with this person in an airport on a business trip would it just suck b/c the person is uninteresting or would they be awesome to go and have drinks with and have a lively discussion, etc. The stellar candidates, in my opinion, are really passionate about everything they do, they have interesting backgrounds and personalities, they are intelligent and can carry a great conversation about most subjects, they are ambitious and hardworking, and they just seem like fun people I’d like to go out with socially, etc. etc.

sorry for reacting so harshly fdsa but no. that is simply not true. there are many many people on here who will confirm that. even penn’s website confirms it. I wonder why so many GCs are so incompetent…

people need to read the thread before asking things…seriously all of these questions have been asked dozens of times and they’ve been answered pretty thoroughly by current interviewers like myself.

Just don’t be the annoying kid that asks these kinds of questions in class…lol. In my Acct 101 class we had a student who notoriously did this…needless to say that after about a month the professor got so annoyed that one day he snapped and started cusing and yelling at her in from of the class…calling her an incompetent idiot that was wasting her classmates’ time, etc. It was amazing…the whole class started clapping and cheering. she ran out of the class crying.

yep…it was absolutely hilarious. This girl deserved it though…she would literally ask 3-4 ■■■■■■■■ questions each class…to the point that whenever she raised her hand most of the students in the class would just start rolling their eyes and sighing. Apparently the professor got irritated too and just blew up one day…well deserved in my opinion…if i was in his shoes i wouldnt have lasted that long honestly.

Would it be beneficial at the interview for my child to mention the legacy status as well as the fact a parent works for the University or could that be detrimental?

@judipm - I don’t think it would be detrimental if your child mentions it…in all reality it probably fits into your child’s story as to how they first became interested in penn, etc.
