ahhhh intervieewww

i just got an e-mail for an interviewww...i'm so scaredd does this mean that i'm not going to get innn?? because it seems like the people who get one dont end up getting in =///

I'm crossing my fingers I don't get one. I'm pretty certain it does not reflect your admissions standings but I have noticed that trend also that people without interviews seem to get in more often than those with interviews. Plus an interview would just add to the stress of waiting for my decision! 17 days!

Really? This doesn't make sense to me.

I thought interview was just based on availability. Also, legacies are basically required to get interviews I think, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Actually, I think interview will help you if you do well.

I've basically given up on interviews.
I still haven't gotten one.
I don't know what it means (good or bad?) so I can't get it off my mind!!

I haven't gotten one, and I won't get one. Why? Because there is only one alum doing interviews in my state.

You can check to see how many are in your state/region: Penn Admissions: Interviews

It's the alums who organize the interviews, so I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the quality of your application. People have gotten called for interviews the day of submitting, so that clearly shows that their application hadn't even been reviewed.

I had my interview a two weeks ago, but there are tons of alum in my area. I think it went really well and my interviewer was a former Penn faculty member as well as alum. Keeping my fingers crossed.

where did u hear that getting an interview is a bad thing? seriously........besides, if they don't like u, why in the world would they wanna waste time on u?

Maybe they are a borderline candidate that an interview would boost into the "accepted" pool.

the valedictorian of my school told me colleges usually give interview to people they're on the fence about...i'm so nervousss its on sundayy! what do they even ask you at the interview? becauseee seriously i get really nervous on interviews for stuff..do they ask you about your resume and stuff?

i hear they're pretty informal, so they probably won't ask about your resume and numbers. it'll be a question session (you can ask questions). and be prepared to answer why you want to go to penn/ what you hope to gain, etc.

--

i should've gotten an interview. gah. i could've requested one but didn't :(
are they going to find that weird taht i didn't seize the opportunity?

haha yeah you probably should have...

but i guess there's nothing you can do now? whatever, I doubt it would actually hurt you.

You're allowed to request interviews?

so an alumni called me yesterday to set up an interview.
there've been many speculations, but what does getting an interview really mean...?

@Catalysis

only legacy applicants can request interviews.

i thought for Penn, an interview is neutral? meaning that it depends on whether u have alumni doing interviews in ur area or not?

i talked to my physics teacher and he said that the way the college admission process works (well for ivy league schools at least) is:

look at your sats/acts, courses, rank, and gpa, multiply your gpa by a certain number (depending on your school)

if your gpa was high enough, then you get an interview

if you do good on your interview, they'll look at the rest of your application and then make their decision

is this right?? like i find it weird that they wouldnt even look at the rest of your application if your scores/grades didnt qualify you for "the next round"

ok you are 100% wrong. well your teacher is...

yeahhh i thought that too..i guess he was just trying to scare cause i was obsessing about getting an interview lol

no.. you can't request an interview unless you're legacy.
i think passing up on the opportunity to have an interview was stupid of me. i should've requested one..

what kind of things do the alumni report back to Penn? just "this person did an interview," or evaluative?

i was thinking i'm not getting an interview but i recently JUST found out i have to do one this weekend...
