Location: Long Island, NY
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male

If you werent a white man from long island i would say you have a great chance. Problem is, your race, and location. Change one or both by November 1 and your chances increase 10 fold. Maybe if one of your parents or grandparents went to Penn you would have a better chance, but that is not the case according to your post. All you can do now is write the best essay ever. The problem is that (based on you going to private school, not sure if this is the case) you seem rich enough to have a professional write your essays so an exceptional essay may raise some flags. O the misery of a rich white man.

But you still have a shot, just not as good of a one as you would have at a state school.

Do people honestly have professionals write their college essays for them? I would never do that. That's insane on moral grounds.
Plus I'm not that wealthy. Although some of my friends are extremely rich, I'm middle class.

And yeah, the fact that I'm Caucasian and from NY really hurts.

Damn. Damn damn.

And yeah, I guess I still have a shot.
I mean, if I was a URM or from a state like Wyoming, I'd probably be a shoo-in, 90% chance of acceptance maybe.
But what is my chance of acceptance being the ragin' Caucasian from NY that I am.

I just assumed you were rich becaue you go to private school. I also said that because you go to private school, I would just make that assumption (not a good one I know, but people judge without knowing hte whole story).

People do have proffesionals write essays. Why would it be so uncommon? Admissions is so competitive, some people think having a proffesional write an essay would give an edge. Note that it would be less than 1% of all applicants, and maybe 5% at most to a school of ivy calibur, but it is still a reality. Same goes with ECs because a college may not know if you volunteered at X because you want to, because you think it will look good for college, or because a college advisor told you. Noone would ask this question if you were poor because where is a poor person going to get money to hire a college counsellor?

Seaghost and withonevoice: are you two the same person? I mean really. Two simliar chances threads and asking for % chances on someone else's thread. hmmm......

Haha, yeah. Originally I had seaghost, and then at one point got suspended for cursing, so made a different one. I alternate sometimes, but really should just delete one and use one so it's less confusing. Is there even a way to delete..?

Seaghost> Your profile is excellent. Saying you have no shot is really stretching it. SATs and GPA looks solid and ECs show leadership as well. I won't say that you are a shoe in (none of us are) but you DEFINITELY have a shot. Just apply and see what happens.

Thank you mahras, you're right... I'm at the point where it's difficult to tell if I'll be accepted or deferred/rejected because my stats are solid. It could basically swing either way, and neither this forum nor my family can say for certain what'll happen... I guess I'll just cross my fingers real tight and hope for the best.

I could not imagine a more competitive place to be applying from Penn than 'Luuong ileand' (I would even hesitate to say Philadelphia and its suburbs are more competitive)
