Penn ED vs. Yale SCEA

Hello!
I am a rising senior and I am planning to apply to both Penn and Yale, and I was previously planning on applying SCEA to Yale and RD to Penn. But now I'm considering the fact that I will likely not get into Yale, and people say your chances are much greater to Penn if you apply ED. I know I shouldn't apply to my 2nd choice school based on chances of getting in, but now I'm wondering if I'm overlooking Penn and how great it is. So does anyone have an opinion one way or another? I really love Yale, and I know I like Penn, but should I like Penn more than Yale?

For some guidance..:
Which school has a better surrounding area?
Which one would be better for engineering?
Which one do people have more fun at?
Which one has a better theater program? (for non-theater majors who are just interested in behind the scenes work)

I know this is a Penn thread and therefore potentially biased, but do the best you can :)

Which school has a better surrounding area? Philly is a lot of fun and the Penn bubble makes it safe. New Haven is very blah in my opinion.
Which one would be better for engineering? Depends on the engineering.
Which one do people have more fun at? No way I can answer this without being biased. I for a while felt like I “settled” for Penn but after visiting HYP several times each throughout the year as a Penn student, I no longer regret my decision. I love Penn and have a blast; when I go on roadtrips to these schools I still have fun but I don’t enjoy the campuses as much or surrounding cities.

There are a lot of groups on campus that do **** just check that ^ I also have some friends that do acting with non-Penn companies/theaters in Philly. I’m not big into theater though so someone else could provide a better answer than me.

For the many student theatre opportunities at Penn–including lots of behind-the-scenes work–check out these three web pages:

Which school has a better surrounding area?
I don’t know New Haven personally, but people say it’s sketchy and boring. Philly is at least interesting to be in no matter what you’re into…music, food, art, etc. I mean, at least that’s my experience.

Which one would be better for engineering?
Depends. As far as I know Penn’s bioengineering program is one of the best, and chemical engineering ranks in the top 20 consistently. I don’t know about Yale.

Which one do people have more fun at?
IDK! Penn has a study hard, party harder type of mentality so if you ever need a break it should be quite easy to find something to do. I wouldn’t know enough about the social scene at Yale.

Which one has a better theater program? (for non-theater majors who are just interested in behind the scenes work)
I wouldn’t know, but I know Penn has ridiculous numbers of student groups and good funding for those, so you’d probably be able to find something if it’s an interest.

They’re both great. If you’re debating, don’t do ED. You may really regret that.

Thanks so far for the help! As for the engineering, I think I’m interested in Environmental at Yale and the new Market & Social Systems one at Penn… so if anyone has any info on that new major, that would be great too!
