wow my stats aren't terrible
but now I feel like shat
2,000 extra applicants just changes the whole playing field

I don't believe that. I looked up "5789" and "University of Pennsylvania" and found nothing. I also looked for number of applicants, and I found nothing.

Don't worry too much, people.

ok i've been a long time non-posting person but that number hase made me come out of my shell. 5789 as this years number is not a good thing. that means if they admit the same amount of people, then the admit rate for ED alone will go from 30% to 20%. we have to find out if that number is real or not.

and also, what does "bump" mean on these boards?

bump sends it to the top so people can see it.

"we have to find out if that number is real or not."

No... You can wait till dec 14 :)

"bumping" brings the thread up to the front of the thread contents board.

^ i mentioned before that 4001 people applied early last year and 30% were accepted...there's a good chance that this is just a troll lol because i can't find those numbers anywhere

someone on CC called and the Penn rep said decisions will be out on Dec 14, not Dec 12

Ivy Hopeful,
please tell us where you got this info from!

Thank you Effrum and zha000 for your kindly responses.

and to jcll2002:
Pardon us for actually giving a darn about the ED numbers. A couple people who visit this board might be concerned about their academic future. Heck, I'd bet money that there are even some people in this thread that want to get into Penn enough that they might even attempt to research aforementioned ED rates. Apparently you aren't one of them. Pity.

chill, guys.

watch the dp - we might get an article before the end of publishing for the semester (which is before decisions are released) disclosing the true number of ed applications.

damn...close to 6000 ED applicants is def not a good sign.

Nah, I'm just a junior but I'll be in the same place probably applying to penn early like you guys. I just thought it was funny: "Guys, We have to find this number out." Now you can laugh at me exactly one year from now when I probably post this exact thread.

That number is almost certainly wrong.

Albert, how about putting on your reporter's hat and finding out when the admissions office plans to release the number? :) Most other schools have already released their early application tallies.

I called (for other reasons) and kind of slipped in a question about ED numbers.
The rep said "the numbers are around the same as last years"
Me: "oh, no new influx of ED applicants?"
Rep: "no, not really"

I hope she actually knew... =/
because although I agree the numbers probably went up.
6000 ... just seems too big

thanks for the info zha000

All I can really do is echo what tenebrousfire said and tell you to watch the DP.

well i appreciate that zha mentioned it when she called the admissions office and i hope the the woman who answered her knew what she was talking about...if it's the same as last year, 30% is pretty damn good

thanks a bunch zha000. that's great information you've got. if we have any other good reason to call, let's try to confirm 'about the same as last year' with a number, as they might have that on hand in a few days

GUYS! IT'S OFFICIAL. a 1.5% decrease in ED numbers
woot I knew 6000 was kind of crazy.
check out the DP (there's a thread that also talks about this)
good luck to everyone
and no problem! I really hope we get in!
