Penn may accept a greater number of applicants this year.

Also, don't forget that the echo boom of high schoolers that we are currently experiencing is anticipated to pass in a few years resulting in shrinking numbers of high school seniors...

dont worry we can import brains just like we can import labor.

"Increasing the size of the student body--and lowering selectivity--would be inconsistent with that."

That was my point - given the increasing pool (not to mention the increasing # of foreign applicants) it would have been possible to keep student quality constant and yet increase enrollment - think of all the people with 2200+ who are getting rejected now. Every single person on the waitlist is good enough to go to Penn if they had a seat for them.

a tangentially related but pertinent issue I want to raise is also the quality of our students as we strive for eminence. Penn's damned selective already, dot dot dot. however, my observation in the last three years is that there is a large body of students in the college(and quite a few in wharton), who are seemingly fixated on partying and getting low a's, high b's with lowest possible effort. the 'party crowd' if you will, which, hate to say it, but this group is discernably more girls than guys.

Hence, increasing the student body to these seemingly driven people on the waitlist may have greatly diminished returns of student quality if large amounts of people getting in now, dont even maintain a drive for their education. ofcourse many of them may even have a averages, or even in fact may be geniuses...I don't know. do we need more of these jekyl and hydes at penn?

I agree with mengcheng...and I also want to point out something else, let's cut the BS, a small group of people at Penn are simply put: dumb. I honestly do not understand how these people got in here in the first place. I knew a guy who was in engineering and somehow managed to screwup Math 104 ( a guy on a education path where insane amounts of math are needed). There are other people who are just dumb all around, not just academically. They fail to engage in any activity with out ****ing up. If we could somehow spot these "genuises", we could kick them out and make room for more people. J/K, but seriously, is anyone else surprised by the amount of morons that you run into around here?

well we all can't be as smart as you megaman...I mean probably some people go out and have fun at Penn rather than post over 1500x on CC.

I can't argue with the first part of your post...can't blame them for that (see...now you've just ed me off and made me turn into an arrogant prick). Well you dumb., if you would look at my join date you would see that it says september 2005...that's a hell of a long time. If you divide my amount of posts/per days since I joined it comes out to about 1.something posts, which unless I suffered mental retardation, that might take perhaps 5secs out of my day. I don't know about you, but there's just not a lot of partying that I can fit into those 5 seconds.

Believe me, I party and have fun, more than a lot of people in this country who think they're party animals. Plus, I don't see how the fact that X person parties, gives them the right to be stupid. If you're dumb, you're. Period. Partying has nothing to do with it.

well if your so cool and smart why are you on CC at 9:49 kiddo? Nice life.

A) Because I have a midterm tomorrow you dumb piece of ****.
B) I have a freaking cold

I want to see you partying under the same conditions. Do you even go here?

PS. If you do go here, you are probably one of the dumb****s who I have no clue as to how you got in.

megaman123, about those "dumb" kids you were talking about...are these kids mostly found in the College? or even distributed in Wharton, SEAS etc..also, are these kids athletes, or accomplished in some other way which would have possibly helped them get into Penn?

no, finance does not go to penn, nor has she entered tertiary education (yet).

the people whom i would consider "dumb" are largely in the college.

however there is a sad irony to the wharton kids who have a gpa lower than 3.0 and can't transfer out (since the college requires a minimum 3.0 to transfer).

lol...so I was getting S... from a kid who still hasn't even graduated HS. Plus...she called me kiddo...Now I'm just annoyed lol.

I honestly think they're well distributed among the different schools (maybe less so in SEAS). I'd have to say the top dumb award goes to Nursing. Not that all nursing students are dumb, definitely not, they work hard and I've heard that a lot of their bio etc courses are intense. But if you DO find a dumb nursing student, be assured that s/he will be dumb as hell.

There is definitely a decent sized portion of SAS who might qualify as dumb, but they have other redeeming abilities, for sure. Most of them have insane ECs.

I know a couple of pretty dumb wharton students, who I do not understand how they got into this school, but most of the wharton people I know ( albeit few) are pretty smart.

Excuses, Excuses. Cry me a river megaman.

lol...i remember one of megaman's posts in which he was sayin how he wasnt enjoying the academics in Penn or somethin of that sort...what seems to be the problem? and if therz a good proportion of dumb kids, they will sorta make it easier to get an A since the curve is used right? this will apply especially to wharton

what are you talking about? Why do you insist on continuing this petty argument? I verbally smacked the **** out of you, now be a good little girl-take what little dignity you have left-and LEAVE.

alrighty....whatever you say miniman.

Yeah. I posted a while back about how my econ course and my math course were sort of mediocre. That I wasn't really impressed by the professors I had had up to this point. But then someone else cleared the issue by explaining that most lower level econ and math courses are prominent because of this, and they get better as you get into more advanced stuff.

^^ lmfao ^^

miniman...wow...how clever of you, quite the thinker aren't you.

omfg megaman your soooooo funny and clever!!!
