Like many, I am struggling to decide on my ED. I love both Penn and Duke for different reasons so I know I really can't go wrong, but I'd still like to gather some more info. They are pretty much equally great fits, however.

I'm one of those kids that messed up their freshman year then lived to regret it all lol. I mean not too tragically, but a 3.3 freshman year certainly does create a cumulative setback. My test scores, ECs, and essays are competitive, but unfortunately my overall GPA is lacking. For this reason, I know I pretty much stand no chance at either schools with a 3.67 UW GPA (3.85 without frosh) so I guess I'd rather go with the one that would be more likely to accept me if that's definable.

Anyone have any idea which of the two is known to be more forgiving in this area and really stay true to the holistic approach? Is there one that would be more likely to "pardon" the bleak GPA with ECs, essays, etc.? (I am a completely unhooked applicant, although a sibling of mine attended grad school at Penn, which probably doesn't help). I have a hunch no one really knows what goes thru the adcom's minds, but any input would be great. (Not really looking for the "just pick based on fit" answer as I am aware and will likely end up being forced to figure that out if nothing sparks a revelation lol). Thanks!
