Penn RD Chances PLZZZZZZ

...which is not to say that you shouldn't make your ability to pay for college the sole crieteria (hope i spelt that right) for getting in. i mean internationals DO get in to the top twenty five and they are certainly qualified, but...honestly why do you want to apply to the states if its so hard to get in? just go to a nice local college, get a nice degree, then go to the us for higher studies. I mean its nice if you get in for undergrad, but it isnt the end of the world if you dont.

Penn is need blind for internationals

haha well there you go :-))

no, its not. i just posted a link to its site where they said they arent

Need blind for internationals? What? No. If you apply as an international and you say you need financial aid, the admissions people definitely take that into account (ie if you need alot of aid you need to be a stronger applicant to get in).

Simple Q :
Am i a strong enough applicant that i can make it with aid....??

Apocke, this is directly off the Penn website:

"The University is able to offer financial assistance to very few students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., Canada or Mexico. Therefore, most non-citizens should plan to meet expenses for their entire schooling before applying for admission. Because the offer of admission for non-citizens is directly linked to their ability to meet these expenses, candidates whose families have the financial means to afford educational costs are urged not to apply for Penn-sponsored assistance."

So basically, you CAN get aid, but because funds are limited, their policy isn't need-blind like it is for US citizens. Unfortunately, since you need a lot of aid, it will count against you. Apply anyway though - the worst they can do is say no, which has the same result as you not applying at all. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky few who get the aid! :)

Nobody knows who's going to get in and who's not...there are people here with the most amazing EVERYTHING - scores, ECS, essay, recs, you name it - and even they don't know if they'll make it. Nobody here can tell you if you're strong enough to get in with aid, and to repeat what I said in my above post, just go for it! The worst they can do is turn you down (which is pretty bad, I'll admit! lol), but you can't get in if you don't try. If you're really passionate about going to Penn, give it your best shot, and hopefully it'll work out for you! :)

I am desi (well kinda, sorta anyways) and have lived there for six years, elementary school and middle school. My dad made 1 lakh per month which is roughly equivalent to $2000 dollars. That made our income around $24000. In America 24K is nothing, while back home we had a luxurious lifestyle. You have to take in consideration the cost of living. India has a lower cost of living than our native country. 6000 dollars is pretty good considering that most people make barely 100 dollars a month.

My cousins came here as international students. They first attended lower level colleges. I think he started out at Okhlahoma then transfering to UT-Austin, mainly because it was cheaper and easier to get scholarships. But guess what? He ended up attended Penn (Wharton and SEAS (?) combined)for his grad degree and earns quite well now. I think this may be a good option for you.

But apply anyways, you neve know.

well, i dont know why you are limiting yourself to american schools really. i would take a look at:
-the different IIT campuses, isnt there one in hyderbad?
-seven imperial universities of japan (Tokyo U, Kyoto etc...)

both of those university sets have extremely strong engineering schools. much stronger than what you will find at penn. and they are closer to you...=/

Maybe impboy's got a point...:)

TO ADD THIS ALL UP I GET THE WORST SCORE OF THE CENTURY!!!!!!
1880
CRitic - 590
Writing - 620
Math - 670

I'm presently laughing at myself....... LOL
what a score to end up at with all these HiFi talks..... btu i thank all of you guys for hwlping me out on this Univ
These scores clearly state i'm no where in picture to apply.... Though i'm sure of a 2300 on SAT II...... I can get that...... no doubt......
I'm applying to ASU .. coz it happens to be near my uncle's place....
Hey one more thing... My dad's income in't 6000 for MONTH its an YEAR!!!
I'm thinking of UC Irvine
Oklahoma state university
and then what...... what more schools take such a score...... I'm suppose to be disappointed with these scores ..... but somehow i feel i'm not out of race yet.... So i'm giving this a shot!!! And i think those school above would take me in..... With aid if possible if not I'll get into a good local college and get there for grad.....
But doesn't mean i make a lousy effort here for my dream of going for undergrad to US is still high.......What say you ppl.....?
I feel beaten but not Dead!!
Got any schools you can advice me to give a shot at.........??

Can't you retake in Jan? Most colleges will let you submit Jan scores if you are applying RD...
I can't help you with schools, I'm also international so i don't know much about schools that aren't like Ivy or Stanford or whatever...sorry Apocke :(
I wish you all the best though! Good luck with whatever you decide to do! :)
