What are my chances?

My dream schools are all reach schools for me and I can only apply to those school otherwise I go back to India if I am not accepted.

SAT I : 1630 ( I will retake on December). Honestly, my math is near to 750, but English screws me up (Big time).

My cumulative GPA till 11th grade is: 3.16 (Rising Curve); however in my senior year I received ≈ 3.9 GPA.

SAT Subject test: I took it again on November 8th but for both Physics & Math I am expecting 700+ .

Taking 1 AP this year: AP Physics B or AP Calculus AB (undecided)

I got into NHS with that low cumulative GPA because principle thought I was capable enough and made an exception for me. ( :) )

I am trying to go to Aerospace Engineering.

My list of Universities include:

1) Cornell

2) MIT

3) Harvard + Dartmouth + (Other IVY's)

4) Boston University

5) Berkeley

Yeah, my dad's said I can only apply to these colleges...Honestly, they all accept students with 3.5+ Cumulative, but will they see the increase in the chart? Do I have a chance to be accepted....please reply fast because if I don't then I rather not waste my parents hard-earn money...I already wasted too much on the SAT's. :/

Thanks for your help, CC!

Also, if I get into IVY (if I have more chances) I might not apply for financial aid. But if that doesn’t boost up my chances, I guess I will.

Note: I am from Saudi, which is like different region than India, America, or China, where most students get accepted to IVY league…So different part of the country.

Are you converting your 3.16 from a Saudi scale, or is that how your school reports it?

@skieurope‌:

School report. I don’t study in Saudi School, Lol.

Before anything:
How much can you afford per a year?
Are you applying for FA?
Do you have a back up plan?

@paul2752‌:

“Don’t worry about the money” - My dad

What’s that? If that’s FAFSA, then no because I am not a US citizen.

Indian Universities, I guess.

I don’t understand why your father limits your choices to those five schools, but your SAT and GPA is way too low. Even an uptrend GPA isn’t enough to cover your 3.16 GPA…and no, bunch of kids get rejected from those schools even with 3.8+ unweighted GPA.

@paul2752‌ I know. Let’s not talk about the problem, and talk about solution. I am almost out of deadlines and I have an interesting background story. (just putting it out there) As far as SAT is concerned, I am going to retake it and it will be higher than 1630, of course.

Can you simply chance…and isn’t a jump from 3.16 to 3.9, like really high for GPA’s…so… yeah.

What is your 'interesting background story"?

Well, its not interesting if i sum it up, but for the sake of time I will.

When I lived in US, I was bullied everyday by my peers and everyday I would be either crying or bleeding. Two to three years past by, nothing changed. (Meanwhile, I shifted from one school to another due to this reason…total of 8-9 school both in US and in INDIA) When I came to Saudi and joined my 9th or 10th school, I was still harassed because most of the people are from Pakistan and they didn’t like an Indian so they harassed me and mocked my accent. Later instead of doing suicide, which my past friend had done, I had decided to swallow all that pain and be friends with them and help them out and improve their grades instead of mine. Therefore, I cheated and wrote tests and did homework for them (not sure if I should include this, but whatever this is the truth) and I knew that once they put trust on me and after they are aloof of basic fundamentals and when they reach 10th or 12th grade, I will stop helping them. Although I admit I started to enjoy my life because there was everyone who would smile at me and say ‘hello,’ but i was ignorant and my grades suffered from A’s to F’s and honestly, at that time, I didn’t care. Currently, i am now in 12th grade and I have stopped helping those students and they now are failing horribly and I know for sure that they cannot gain the knowledge from Algebra/Geometry/ Precalc/ Algebra 2 to prepare for Calculus. So far, I am the top 5% from average 90% kiddo.

“Therefore, I cheated and wrote tests and did homework for them (not sure if I should include this, but whatever this is the truth) and I knew that once they put trust on me and after they are aloof of basic fundamentals and when they reach 10th or 12th grade, I will stop helping them.
DON"T WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!

“cheated and wrote tests and did homework for them”

This part, if you write this, will give you a perfect and legitimate reason to reject you!

I am sorry that you suffered bullying(I really am, because I suffered once, too), but the way you ‘solved it’ will give nothing more than frowns on admission officers’ faces. Write about something else…

Btw, out of reaches for all those schools.

@paul2752: So no chance? I am rejected and now a failure in life. Amazing.

@KaranMIT‌
First, being rejected from colleges doesn’t make you a failure.
Second, someone saying you are failure doesn’t actually make you a failure.
I m sorry, but the admission process is much more difficult for international student, (and much worse for needy)
Me and some of my int friends were rejected by 22 schools with SAT 2250, 8 APS one of which was self-taught, one national math award and one state writing competition, one research internship, 2 years of selective state band member, qualified to national chem olympiad and pretty good GPA. All those schools would have been matches for me if I weren’t an international student with financial need.

And guess what, none of us think we are failures of life. We just think: OH Dang, too bad! Well one gap year to go
Or
Welp, still got in a state school
Or
at least I got full tuition in one school.

If you are a foreign student in US, you just have to work 3+ times harder!

@paul2752 : If thats the case, 3x harder in what? I can’t just change my CR section score over night, literally i tried throught the whole summer when all the kids played, I stayed in my house and practiced but what do I end up with 450. and 760 on M, but whats the point? I literally am working hard or i think im convinced that im working hard. Give me advice, since you faced it, what should be my next step?

Work on CR section. What book do you use? If you manage to bring it up to 640 at least(AND if you have a cumulative 3.5 GPA), some schools like U of Alabama will give merit scholarhsips even to int kids. I know you don’t need money from school but it’s nice to get money from school, right?

There are bunch of threads about how to study SAT in collegeconfidential forum. Look into SAT/ACT forum.

How did you study it?

I studied based on 3000$ material that my dad bought. It includes people from India teaching Maths for the SAT who got 2400 on their SAT. then Grubers, barron’s ( I have a stack of those), then i just ordered PWN the SAT, Princeton Reivew, Collegeboard, and lot many. I memorized more than 2000 vocabs for the SAT and stupid SAT never asks me the vocabs i remember which, excuse my language, is kind of annoying. ACT’s don’t happen at my school so that’s not an option for me. I studied Grammar from Erika and the only thing that holds me down from 700 in writing sections are those two readers. I am always pissed at those English teachers as they always give me 7. a

@Paul2752 : I told you before my dad doesn’t want me to go to any other colleges than those I have listed because those, even according to me, are prestigious colleges… So those others like university of buffalo and rutgers and other which i have a shot to are disclosed.

Your chance of being admitted into an Ivy League school is very low. Consider other selective schools like Emory or UMich. I apologize for your bullying history!

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1701134-chance-for-uw-madison-new-test-score-will-chance-back.html#latest

@paul2752‌ The only reason why I am sad is because my dad made so much investment on me and I always disappoint him and those colleges are the only way to make me please him and yeah… So i would be broken if they actually rejected me…

@paul2752‌: If it helps, I do YouTube and am a YouTube partner who spreads education all around the globe…I have more than 180+ voluteering hours… and I donate all my money to a donation company who gives organs to those who could be saved…so according to my estimation, I guess I saved around 100 people.
