My letter is below.
Dear XXXX,
Congratulations on your admission to the University of Pennsylvania!
We are writing personally to encourage you to consider being part of the Benjamin Franklin Scholars in the College of Arts & Sciences. You are among a handful of students we consider to be a particularly good fit for our program. If you decide to apply for this opportunity, you will be invited to join.
Each year BFS selects an extraordinary group of incoming freshmen to pursue the liberal arts intensively, guided by some of Penn’s brightest lights. We are looking for bold thinkers who become more excited by ideas the more complex they get. For students in the College like you, BFS begins with Integrated Studies, an exclusive year-long residential learning experience in which you will survey the broad territory of the arts and sciences while living alongside fellow students and faculty in Riepe College House. The program brings together the humanities, arts, literature, social sciences, and sciences into a coordinated exploration of the great ideas that continue to drive our understanding of the world and the human place in it. A mix of lectures, small seminars, and guest speakers, Integrated Studies fulfills a portion of the College’s General Education requirement while building the solid foundation needed for any major area of study you decide to pursue.
Following this shared freshman experience, in the sophomore, junior, and senior years, students in the program have privileged access to a wide array of small, intensive seminars from which all Benjamin Franklin Scholars across the University can choose.
Upon making the decision to join us at Penn, if you would like to be a part of BFS and the Integrated Studies Program Class of 2019, we ask that you fill out the online application by May 1st. The outcome is not in doubt in your case; the application is simply a way for us to get to know each other better. To learn more about the program visit the Integrated Studies website. Please get in touch with us directly at integrated-studies@sas.upenn.edu if you have questions.
Good luck to you during this exciting time of opportunity!
Dennis DeTurck
Steven A. Levin Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
Robert A. Fox Leadership Professor and Professor of Mathematics
Faculty Master of Riepe College House
If I applied to Jerome Fisher M&T with secondary choice of SEAS, and got waitlisted, what does this mean exactly? Did I get waitlisted at M&T or SEAS?
@doc2022 mine is a bit different, less strongly worded! Yours seems like you will certainly be admitted into BFS, mine is a little more ambivalent, although still positive. Congrats!!
And my Penn Plan is popping up saying “Access Denied”…anyone else having this problem?
waitlistteeeddddddd
Accepted Wharton!!! I have no idea why but I’m not complaining. I’ve now been accepted by Babson, USC, Northwestern, Cornell, Brown and UPenn. Waitlisted by UChicago, Columbia, and Stanford. Rejected by HYP and… Berkeley
Waitlisted…accepted into a few expensive schools and rejected from HPSM and Cornell…this whole college admissions thing is getting insanely competitive
I can’t open any ivy letter today…since it’s 8 in the morning and I don’t want to break down in tears in school today
waitlisted
@MustWinLottery I’m an international student. I received mine early morning on the 1st of April
@johannbach It means you were wait-listed for SEAS
