Penn SAAST/M&TSI

<p>Do these look good/impressive? Are they worthwhile? I'm debating going to these in case I can't get an internship this summer... I don't really have any research experience, so would these provide me with some?</p>

<p>OH AND VERY IMPORTANT -- IF I GET ACCEPTED, DO I HAVE TO GO? MY MOM SAYS YOU'RE REQUIRED TO... BUT IDK WHAT'S BINDING ME TO THEM</p>

<p>Anyone? :(</p>

<p>SAAST does give you lab experience, I think. I’m applying this year so… yeah. Not familiar with other one, sorry. And summer camps are never binding unless it states that on the website.</p>

<p>I attended M&TSI, and I absolutely loved it! It was really intense and I met a ton of brilliant people, so I would say that it would look good on an application, and I’ve also found it to be a good topic to discuss in essays/interviews. It gives you some time in the lab, but I wouldn’t say it’s research-based. If you get in, you are no means required to attend.</p>

<p>The program had a sink or swim mentality: Check out the dress code communication that they sent out in the MIDDLE of the 2010 program…many students had to go shopping and other panicked. Business formal was required on some field trips; business casual on others.
"BUSINESS FORMAL:
Men: A full suit is minimum expected attire. The suit should be black
or subdued neutral colors. A traditional button down shirt should be
worn, buttoned completely and fully tucked (including a collar). The
shirt should be solid light color, and a matching color tie with a
reserved pattern should be worn with a small neat knot, tied under the
neck. Shoes should be black or brown leather, matching the color of
the suit and with black ankle high socks.</p>

<p>Women: A full suit is again minimum expected attire. It is expected
that the suit be conservative and tasteful. A traditional jacket is
nice but not required, while a skirted suit bottom or traditional pant
suit bottom is absolutely required. A solid colored button down shirt,
a sweater, or blouse without frills or ruffles is required. No exposed
shoulder or open toed footwear is acceptable.Women should opt for
closed-toe pumps with a moderately sized heel. Stiletto heels and
other eye-catching elements, such as straps or embellishments, have no
place in women’s business formal attire.</p>

<p>Both Genders: Fabrics in overly loud, bright colors should be avoided.
If wearing jewelry, women should limit themselves to one or two small,
reserved pieces, such as a simple wrist watch or stud earrings.
Jewelry that becomes the focal point of a woman’s ensemble is an
inappropriate choice for business formal clothing. Men, on the other
hand, should refrain from wearing any sort of jewelry for business
formal occasions. Business formal attire dictates that hair be
properly groomed. In addition, men should properly groom any facial
hair before attending a business formal event. Finally, women should
avoid wearing too much bright makeup or strong perfume, which is not
appropriate in a business formal setting.</p>

<p>Business Casual:
Men: A french, collared, button down shirt is expected. A tie, similar
to one mentioned above is optional. Slacks, either black or khaki are
expected. Absolutely no shorts or jeans! Loafers or black leather
shoes with matching socks are required. Sandals are not allowed.</p>

<p>Women: A button down shirt or blouse (again like the one mentioned
above) is required. A conservative skirt or khaki/black pants is
absolutely required. Open toed footwear or sandals are again
inappropriate.</p>

<p>IMPORTANT: There will be absolutely no tolerance for inappropriately
attired students on our New York Trip. If you are not wearing a full
business suit when we depart, you will not be allowed to the Morgan
Stanley event."</p>
