Penn Sate University Park vs. University of California Berkeley

Which one is better for finance major?

Are you a junior looking for schools to which to apply or a senior who’s been admitted?
What’s in-state for you?
What’s your parents’ budget?
What are your current stats (if you’re a junior) /have you been admitted DUS or Smeal?

Well, I am a junior thinking about which schools to apply to but I want to make sure I can get in. I live in NJ so both of them are out of state. I do not want to go over 45 k for tuition. And I have a 3.8 gpa but have only taken one honors class on high school. I would like to go into business.

PSU is within budget (total COA with tuition, R&B, and miscellaneous for OOS reaches 46k) and I think UCB is too even if the total pricetag is 55K.
You need to take more honors classes for Penn State and without Honors classes UCB is moot, I can’t imagine they’d take you since a proxy would be that they want students in the top 10% of their class, weighted rank (I assume you don’t have IB or AP either).
For Penn State, apply early, check DUS and accept the summer session and you have a shot with 1900 SAT.

What’s wrong with Rutgers?

Getting into UCB is difficult. It’s very much a highly selective school. PSU, not so much. However, I know that my kids are just better suited for PSU USB is a whole different environment, and one I’d recommend more for grad students than teenagers. PSU is the very much the epitome of the state U college experience. A lot more OOS kids at PSU, a more cohesive campus feel. It’s not just the acadmeics and rankings that are important IMO. A moot point if you don’t have the choice between the two schools anyways.
