Wondering if anyone has heard yet regarding architecture? There is a thread of acceptances under the penn state section with random majors so far. Seems like they may sort through the apps by major. Curious if they are working on architecture yet.

Yes, my son heard he got in.

Yes, my son received his acceptance at the end of Nov.

MOm2Suns,

Penn State has rolling admissions and that may explain why some have heard and some have not. When did your child submit his/her app?

Yes, rolling - but not truly FIFO (first in first out). I have heard several different things regarding the way applications are processed - maybe rumors? One is that they start with the top and bottom of the applicant pool and work their way to the middle (guessing DS is somewhere in that middle range regarding stats) (tough with architecture). Also heard they are pulling apps randomly. Then heard they are looking at them by major. Don't know which is true but DS's app was in sometime in early September. Patiently waiting.......

Mom2suns, since your son's app wassubmitted in early Sept. for a rolling admissions university, it would not be far fetched to call and ask when you should expect to hear. You don't even have to give your name if you don't want. Just give the time of year the app was filed and for which major and ask the time frame for admissions results.

I applied the day before early deadline and heard, by mail, 4 days later. Not really FIFO.

I recall PSU looked at all architecture applications completed by certain dates, with chances of admissions declining with each batch. Don't remember the specific dates, but I'm sure it was on the website or I wouldn't have known to kick my son into high gear.

I think this was something we all assumed last year, 4trees, but in the end it appeared we were right.
Because of their size, PSU is very regimented. It's 2/3 gpa, 1/3 sat/act, and very little else. Every admissions officer said the same to us, in person or when speaking to a group. If you have the grades to be above "the line" you're in.

t-dad,
I admit I don't know how this works but yes, I understand they go by gpa + sat. How do they draw that 'line' and keep enrollment at a desired level if they are accepting students over a period of time without adjusting that 'line' as the class fills up, or do they keep it high and use a waitlist if necessary?

Trees,
My impression was that they quickly accept the obvious, and quickly reject those who they know won't make it. My son, who eventually was asked to submit a portfolio because he was on the "waitlist" waited a long time before he heard anything from PSU, even though he applied very early.
In other words, they start on the top and bottom, and work toward the "line".
Remember, this is just my opinion.

Thanks thespian dad, that makes sense to me.
