Hello, My S has been accepted into the Engineering school. I noticed that of all the disciplines, Computer Engineering is least ranked. This gives me some confusion as to why- as the school generally has a great eng reputation. Has this major lost it's accreditation or similar? Perhaps a program redesign is underway? My S is awaiting admission decisions from other schools who seem to have higher ranked Comp Eng programs but we love Penn St. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello again, my S has decided to attend PSU. I’m excited for him. I noticed that USNews just ranked their CE Grad school #21. Hope their undergrad rates similarly next cycle. Can anyone share their thoughts on the quality of the undergrad program? Thanks!

Hello, I am a current engineering student and can answer your question. I wouldn’t worry too much about rankings. For example my major Industrial Engineering is ranked 6th. By comparison, rank 20+ Comp Eng / Comp Sci is recruited so heavily at Career Fairs that I almost switched majors.

The best thing for your S is to join some clubs, gain leadership experience, and pick up a hobby that supports his Comp Eng interests. The research, networking, and peer interaction is where Penn State really stands out from most other schools.

Hope that helps!
