Thank you! I wanted to clarify that if D didn’t choose to join the waitlist, her other option was to accept 2+2 (which she didn’t want to do!).
I can’t imagine there is anything but one big waitlist. We have seen in the past that students are not taken off the list solely in some sort of chronological (by date of application) order; it seems to be related to the college they have applied to, which sorta makes sense.
Yesterday my son got 2+2 Harrisburg for Smeal intended major. He emailed asking reconsideration for DUS at the main campus. Will he get some kind of email confirmation that he asked to be reconsidered? Or will this remain a mystery until they make a decision? He also wants a summer start, so he mentioned that.
that’s really the best strategy at this point for a UP acceptance. His portal should change to say under review again.
D22 accepted University Park starting in the fall.
I agree. Although this morning I heard from one of my son’s friends that he just got waitlisted in DUS… not Smeal… DUS. Have you heard of that happening before? It appears spots are filled up already at this point?
My daughter just got accepted to Penn State University Park campus - College of Liberal Arts! They must have posted it last night and she saw it today. She applied Early Action but the SRAR (self reported academic record) was posted a few days after the Nov 1st deadline. They moved the Dec 24th decision date to Jan 31st. We called the admissions office after the new year and they explained to us that she was moved into the next batch of decisions in January. Good luck to everyone!
The same thing happened with my daughter. She just got accepted to UP for Psych.
No official email but DD’s portal was updated today—accepted to UP, undeclared major. OOS, TO, 3.8 UW.
Congrats to all of you! Were you all RD for these decisions? My daughter was pushed to rolling due to a file missing and I’m wondering when those will start coming out.
My DD’s app was RD. Submitted a few days before Thanksgiving.
Anyone got accepted today? Still waiting, applied back in Nov 1
No notice from Admissions this AM. Last week I was told by Admissions that a decision would be posted to the portal by the 31st. Not sure if that was to occur last evening at 12:01 AM or this evening at 12:01 AM. Or if they update the portal throughout the day. 4 years ago when my other son applied, they updated the portal throughout the day.
My D was accepted. We weren’t sure if she was in the earlier round of EA or not due to a change in major, so she just randomly checked the portal every once in awhile. I think the last she checked was on 1/28 and she checked last night 1/30 and got the acceptance. No email yet.
Congrats! Could you share the stats?
If you choose to attend Penn State – and we hope you will – login to MyPennState and select the “Follow this link to accept your offer of admission” button to take the next step. Please Note: We request students accept their offer by May 1 for summer/fall admission at any campus. If you do not want to attend Penn State, please decline your offer of admission in MyPennState (this is not required, but will indicate to us that you no longer have interest in Penn State).
Anybody know why they say declining is not required? Is it because they will not accept another person to take this spot?
OOS
SAT 1490
GPA 4.53 weighted/4.0 unweighted
10 AP’s
Any given potential student “declining” does not mean that a spot will open up. Every university offers admission to many more students than they anticipate will actually enroll. How much they “oversell” depends on the university, their historical and projected yields, etc. They know that thousands of students that are offered will not enroll. There is not an absolute need to formally decline because once you haven’t enrolled by May 1 that admission seat will not be held for you at many universities. You can look at the CDS for any school and see how many students were waitlisted and accepted off the waitlist.
Put another way…if a university wants a freshmen class of 5,000 people, they don’t offer admission to only 5,000. They offer to 10,000 or whatever number their models say will yield them a freshman class of 5,000. Then hope that 5,500 don’t actually accept.
Still no decision, applied Nov1
If you applied on 11/1, are you certain that ALL of your materials were in by that date? Your SRAR? Test Scores? Etc? In other words, are you sure you are a priority applicant? Many, but not all, students who don’t get their decision when they thought, are not in the application category that they think they are in.
