Penn State Harrisburg

My son wanted to go to UP but was admitted to Harrisburg and he's very dissapointed. Can anyone tell me anything about this campus? What is it like? How are the professors? How are the dorms for first year students? How is the PSU school spirit? Do the students go into Harrisburg at all or do they isolate themselves at the campus?

It has improved over the years. It started as a former Air Force base. There is a large first class library that was built about 10 years ago. Most of the residence halls were built in the last 10 years, but I doubt if they provide housing for most of their students. If you want to live on-campus, I’d get a reservation in ASAP.

It is next to the airport, but most of the planes don’t fly over the campus. There is an industrial park, nursing home and two shopping centers next door. The town of Middletown is mixed - some very nice historic areas, and a couple not so nice areas. There is an Amtrak station in Middletown, which provides service to Phila and Pittsburgh. Most of the interesting parts of Harrisburg are about a 15 minute drive away. State College is about 1.5 hours away. Hershey and the huge Milton Hershey Medical Center are about 10 minutes away.

I think you will find much smaller class sizes for intro classes at a branch than at U. Park. You have a guaranteed right to transfer after the first two years (if not before).

That helps. Thank you!
