Penn State Nursing decision notification timing

I applied to Penn State’s nursing program on August 6th, 2018. When does Penn State usually begin to get back to students with admissions decisions? Do nursing students usually hear back sooner/ later because of the November 30th priority deadline? I applied early action, so I should receive a decision before Christmas, but I’m wondering if there’s a chance I could hear back any sooner? Thanks!

There’s always a chance…some people from other programs have started to hear already - but they are all pretty high stat applicants. The vast majority hear within the few weeks prior to the decision deadline. So for early action, that would be December

My daughter just received her acceptance letter in the mail today for University Park and the nursing program!!. Her email acceptance was earlier this week. As a reference, her GPA is 4.0 and her SAT score was 1430. Good luck everyone. I hope you get good news soon.

@nwalesmom Please post the acceptance and her stats in the decision thread so that other applicants can easily find it! Congrats!!

You allow Nursing Decisions? Hmm sounds like this should be with other decisions

Have you heard of any other nursing acceptances?

@amomoffour , I’m not clear on what your question is?

@Sophley We tried to get a thread for only UP Decisions, as they are grouped w/branch campus decisions. It makes it very confusing. They allowed a specific Nursing option, which made me go hmm. Congrats and best wishes!

Nursing programs are very difficult to get into, and I am thankful that there is a separate thread here for discussion about it.

@amomoffour I think the original poster was questioning the timing of when decisions would come out. He or she didn’t post her acceptance and stats. When another student answered her question and indicated the acceptance with stats, he or she was told to put it in the acceptance decision thread.

Also, since 60% of alums start at a branch or commonwealth campus, I’m worried segregating the decision thread would send the wrong message about that these campuses…which I’m sure you aren’t intending. Some high stat kids opt to start at a smaller campus because they will get more one on one attention, which can help them get beyond the weed out classes and gain an advantage in terms of GPA. Just my two cents but i think there’s value in seeing and celebrating everyone’s acceptances—provided the poster includes the campus to which they were accepted. The volume of acceptance posts aren’t so high as to be a burden to anyone to quickly scan. You can easily check it once a week and cover the last week’s updated decisions in about five min.

Good luck to your high stat son or daughter. It sounds like you are anxious to see them accepted soon and (as I know you are aware) this time of year can be stressful to many.

My point is the moderator doesn’t allow certain threads, many of us are only interested in UP. And congratulations to all!

@amomoffour This particular thread was started with questions about the admissions process.Yes, it has the word “decision” in the subject line, but the OP did not post a decision here. OP wanted answers pertaining to how PSU handles decisions for the nursing program. This particular program has its own set of requirements.

The OP did not start a decision thread for the UP nursing program. As such, this thread is not analogous to your desire to separate UP decisions out from branch decisions.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

This is not a nursing decisions thread; it’s an applicant with a question. I have edited the title for clarity.

@Sophley completely agree

@amomoffour As I stated when you started the other decision thread, there is only ONE decision thread. The campus is listed so as to not confuse anyone. Those acceptances are of no less value than the acceptances to UP. They are all Penn State, and as @Sophley pointed out, 60% of all graduates from Penn State start at a commonwealth campus…Not to mention that there are dozens of commonwealth campuses so having a decision thread for each would be a logistical nightmare.

As for THIS thread, it is not a decision thread whatsoever. It was a poster asking about the timing of decisions. Had they posted this in the main decision thread, I would have asked them to please start another thread. So they did, indeed, post it in the right place.

If you have further concerns with the moderation of this page, please feel free to PM me, however, the rules have been uniformly explained and enforced.

Curious to know how many have heard for Nursing so far.

From acceptances I have seen, it almost looks like they accepted those with SATs in the 1400s first, and have now moved down to the 1300s. Seems like they are working their way down the list from top to bottom…

@vamom4 I was accepted 11/28 and another girl from my high school was accepted on Thanksgiving. I know of 3 or 4 girls at my school that are still waiting. From this website and the Penn State Parents group on Facebook I’ve seen about 15 others but I’m sure more have been accepted. I heard many decisions for nursing come out the first two weeks of this month so if that’s true we should be hearing of more!
