Penn State Nursing

I applied to Penn State’s nursing program in early August and I’m wondering what my chances are of getting in. I know it’s extremely competitive. I have a 4.48 weighted gpa and a 1380 SAT. I’m in the 94th percentile of my class. During all 4 years of high school I have 8 science credits including biology (3 yrs total) anatomy and physiology (2 years), chemistry (1 yr) and physics (1yr) and general physical science (1 yr). I have 5 math classes (algebra, geometry, precalc/trig, calc, stat) 4 years of one language, 5 social studies including psychology, 4 english, all classes honors and AP and have strong extracurriculars both in and out of school. It would be really helpful if anyone has been accepted in the past few years and could share their stats!

Your stats are excellent and it appears your high school course load was very challenging. You shouldn’t have any issues getting accepted. I know students who were accepted who had lower stats, but they also had some type of healthcare-related activities to indicate some exposure to nursing or medicine, whether that be volunteer work at a hospital, participation in HOSA, early shadowing, etc. With so few spots available, they want to make sure students are committed to nursing and not likely to drop out when the going get tough and the clinicals get intense (and gross).

Thank you so much!! I do have some experience shadowing emergency room nurses at a local hospital so hopefully that will benefit me!

Absolutely! Seriously, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. Keep us posted!

Will do!

Accepted today!!
