Penn state or Carnegie mellon

Im very social. I do love to hang out with friends and do stuff. But i'm not a heavy partier ( i dont even drink) and i do understand that college is a place to learn and get an education. I will be an engineering major and im torn btw carnegie mellon and penn state. They are both great schools but i'm scared that i will not have the ideal college experience at carnegie mellon, or that i will get too distracted at penn state. Any suggestions from alumni or anyone?

ps: Pls disregard the financial aspects.

Thank you.

is you are not concerened about money, and a primary focus is education, carnegie mellon is an easy choice. carnegie mellon is rated well at 23 overall in the nation, whereas pennstate is only 47. the job recruitinment is great at penn state, but overall carnegie mellon has far better opportunities. also, carnegie mellon’s social life isn’t too bad. i recommend you try .com, for it tells you details like that. http://.com/carnegie-mellon-university/ thats carnegie mellon and penn state is http://********.com/penn-state/. Check both those links out, it is definately easy to get distracted at penn state, huge party/sports school. the better college experience would be penn state, but education wise, carnegie mellon is far better

oops, i meant college *******, the website, just check it out and search. i didn’t know you can’t post links.

college pro;;wler

hi - I had to make this same decision last year (only for architecture).

I chose Carnegie Mellon because it is where I felt the most comfortable. I have a lot of friends at PSU (who LOVE it), and it seemed really nice, but it was a little too large for me. Perhaps I was drawn by the “name” or “prestige” of CMU, but really I think it was mainly that the campus was very manageable, Pittsburgh is a really great and fun city, and the people I met there were very interesting and fit my personality type. I feel that CMU is probably better academically for engineering, but PSU isn’t bad at all, so I think it might just come down to personal preference. If you enjoy being with friends but aren’t too big a partier, I would almost say CMU is ideal, because I do this all the time. Not everyone plays World of Warcraft all the time ;)

Good luck

I visited CMU and was a bit turned off. Everyone seemed kinda introverted.

PSU is huge though and partying is pretty much what most people do on the weekends
