I need help deciding which school I should go to for business.

Are you in-state for either?

Technically they are about the same, Smeal has a larger alumni network but College Park has a better location (more internship-ops)

If you're in state for one of the two, go to that one.

neglecting cost, Id go to Smeal...but go to the instate school.

Neither is instate

then go to Smeal.

Actually I don't think Smeal will give you an advantage over UMCP, as I said earlier they are pretty much the same. No use in splitting hairs, just go to the one you like/ is cheaper/ is closer to home.

What state are you in?

OK I got into programs at both smith and smeal. At smith the business scholars program and the sapphire program at Smeal. Both have around 70 students a year. I am instate at UMD and am receiving 10,000 in grants/scholarships but i will try to think of this as if i am in a neutral state. THe sapphire program at Smeal is really good looking. The program is built directly around the school.

Are you in any programs at either UMD or PSU? Are you already in both business schools at both schools? At UMD the biz school is more selective than the rest of UMD. I am not sure if it is more selective at PSU so.

I sat down with some friends comparing UMD,PSU, and Uwisc and the business opportunities. I disregarded money completely. For me the programs at UMD and PSU along with the fact that I was acually in the business schools gave me a place. I was just a person at Uwisc, just thinking about it I felt alone and lost. At UMD and PSU the programs made me feel like I had a place. When I went to UMD i noticed that the business school was its own community and i would not have that at Uwisc so I stopped looking Uwisc there.

At that point it was betwwen UMD and PSU and their programs. The sapphire program for me was the divider academically. PSU and UMD are the same quality just in different states. The business schools are close enough to not make much a difference. The sapphire program just would help me more than the scholars program. So positive to PSU there.

I thought the programs could help me in internship opportunities. Then i noticed that I would have no opportunities at PSU. It is in the middle of nowhere. It is a college town, yes, but it is only a college town. Off the beltway the exit to UMD is 15 minutes from DC. This is Washington DC, the political capital of the world. Baltimore is 30 minutes away by car(harder w/o a car, you just can't take a metro down to baltimore). Metro to DC is EXTREMELY easy. got on and then get off a few stops later. I love sports and would love to intern with a pro- sports team. Baltimore and DC together have tons of teams. Two MLB and Two NFL teams?!?! That is insane beause they are so close to eachother. Soccer teams, hockey teams, basketball teams, minor league teams, and much more. I also will look into hotel management. In DC there are tons of great hotels. All the way from the 4 seasons and hay adams to the legendary watergate hotel. The opportunities this city offers you is amazing. Now if you are an accounting major you may have a little competition because farmer john right off the PSU campus is probably looking for someone to count his sheep. Seriously, DC is a huge plus for getting internships during the school year.

Like they say the biggest three things in business is location, location, location. That pushed the favor to UMD for me. I decided if money was not an issue and I didn't live in UMD and they weren't offering me 15,000 in aid I would still pick UMD over PSU.

Thats a good expansion on what I said earlier!:

"Technically they are about the same, Smeal has a larger alumni network but College Park has a better location (more internship-ops)"

I agree w/ Cheapsets
