My son has visited both campuses and likes them both. Just one concern with Penn State is it proximity to a city and the transportation to and from campus. His major is still undecided, could be Biology or Computer Science or Econ. We have not heard from Penn State about scholarships/aid but Ohio does offer some OOS scholarship.
Please share any thoughts that you have on these two schools that will help us make a decision.
Thanks!

Both are nice schools, but I would choose OSU due to its location in a nice city. Are you also in the OSU honors program.? My son is choosing between OSU honors and UVA and W&M. I get the impression that OSU is really working hard to attract more top OOS students to compete with Michigan. This means i suspect you will get more attention from administrators at OSU than at Penn State. Are you going to the OSU campus program for new admits next week. We are going, as my son wants tour of football stadium, lol.

Thank you for the quick response. No, my son is not in the Honors program. We visited the OSU campus just this past Monday. Do you know if the program on April 13th will be different than the regular admitted student day. The campus is really good with the massive RPAC and several construction/renovations. Do you have any other information on the academics at Penn State versus Ohio State. Has you son decided on his major and are you a Ohio resident?
Thanks again

My brother in law went to Penn State (from UNC) and he studied meteorology. Penn State is really good in that area. In most areas though I think the two schools are equally well regarded with a slight edge going to OSU in liberal arts and Penn State in most sciences (but not physics, which my son wants to go into). Also, both schools have very loyal alums. If you just saw OSU, probably no need to go next week.

So because close, probably fit most important. I will say Penn State is pretty isolated. That would be a draw back for my son.

Thanks! Hope they make the right decisions. I will post an update as soon as a decision is made.
