Penn State Scandal

I don’t think the PSU community understands the outrage by the rest of the country over the rape and the response by those in charge. This is not about the football coach for the rest of the country. It is about a broken moral code.

I find it despicable that a legend, an AD, and a University President allowed a pedophile to run a mock and harm more boys. Shame on All of them. The merits of winning hundreds of games does not make up for looking the other way. They all deserve to be fired. They don’t deserve to walk out with their head held high. Their legacy’s should be tarnished. Looking the other way at child rape is far worse than any sport scandal that precedes this. USC and Ohio State lost scholarships, bowl appearances, and national championships for allowing athletes to illegally make financial gain. No one here complained when coaches were fired for that. This crime exponentially worse. For nine years, they looked the other way. Take away scholarships, take away bowl appearances, Hurt the institution in their pocketbook. Teach this administration, and every other one that these actions are despicable. Looking the other way, and sweeping it under the rug, is not acceptable. I am sorry, but the NCAA should make a statement. It is time to clean up the greed of college institutions, and restore the fundamentals of education, morality, and responsibility.
Shame on Sandusky, you are a sick man. Shame on Joe Pa, Shame on the administration…You were all misguided and greedy. Take a stand, they all deserve worse than mere media tongue lashing.
Any attempts at trying to justify these actions are pathetic. Your institution failed everyone at the most fundamental levels. I am sorry to all those that are affected.

PSU students rioting for Paterno is on the wrong side of history. They’re going to look back with major regret on their actions. And as an employer, I am seriously concerned about the mentality of students coming out of Penn State after seeing that and the multitude of student interviews, including the students suggesting they feared for their safety if they didn’t agree with the mob.

Anyone that doesn’t think Joe Paterno has major culpability in this is either naive or a fool.

Read the grand jury report and open your eyes. According to the report, Sandusky admitted to inappropriately touching an 11-year-old boy in 1998. This was known by campus police, the State College Police Department, the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the Office of the Centre County District Attorney. You believe in an era where Joe Paterno had police taking players that got into trouble to him instead of the station, where many insiders have reported repeatedly that Joe Paterno knew every detail of every incident going on in State College, that he didn’t know about this? And Sandusky just happened to retire the following year in the prime of his career in his mid-50s? And Sandusky was seen with a child in a closed football practice well after the 2002 incident. You’re straight up fools if you were out rioting for Paterno last night, and that is what the rest of the nation sees you as.

The board of trustees did the right thing, the only thing. The cult of personality there is clear. There is no excuse, and it is only going to get worse if you the new preliminary reports are true. [Newest rumors linked here are unbelievable](<a href=“Audacy Inc: An Audio Universe of Discovery & Connection”>Audacy Inc: An Audio Universe of Discovery & Connection).

This could seriously inflict major, major damage on the university, much worse than has already happened.

<<where is="" the="" outrage="" over="" rape="" of="" a="" 10="" year="" old="" in="" shower="" that="" reponsible="" adults="" did="" nothing="" about.="">></where>

I don’t know about “outrage” - but there is certainly sorrow, disappointment, compassion, and support. To me, these are much more important than “outrage.”

Candle Light Vigil for Abused Victims -
In light of everything that has happened, the people that need our support the most are being overshadowed. These are the victims- the ones who were abused- the ones who were hurt the most.

So let us now, come together as the family we are and show our unconditional support and sympathy for these victims.

For we are all Penn State! Penn State has always been among the most caring universities in the world. So let’s keep it that way!

Blue Out PSU vs. Nebraska–Stop Child Abuse! -
In light of the numerous counts of alleged sexual abuse recently charged against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, wear blue to the Nebraska game to support the victims of child abuse worldwide. The Blue Ribbon Campaign against child abuse began 22 years ago and is recognized across the country. In addition to being the color of our team’s home game jerseys, blue represents the color of bruises that have too often been neglected

If Penn State had any dignity they’d forfeit the Nebraska game and fire any of the remaining staff that had been there in '98 and 2002.

No - Penn State needs to play the Nebraska game and play the best damned game they can. Win or lose - they need to show that PSU football can - and WILL - go on without Paterno.</p>

Forfeiting would just give the impression that the team/program can’t go on without Paterno. Wrong message.

Agreed 100% with Grcxx3.

‘And as an employer, I am seriously concerned about the mentality of students coming out of Penn State’

So you are making a blanket generalization of all Penn State students/graduates because of the actions/comments of a very, very small minority of students? (and by small I’m talking about the idiotic ones that actually caused damage last night)

How adult and open minded of you.

Hope my deans list/extracurricular laden resume (which just netted me 3 internship offers for next summer) never crosses your desk; I don’t think I would want to work for someone who holds an entire institution accountable for the actions of a few misguided people.

cbd - I like your style!

I wish the best for the students of PSU. But I will advise my son to take PSU off his list. There is something rotten in the administration of this school.

bagsboy - I think that is shortsighted, but it’s your decision. More room for others who want to take advantage of the academics that PSU has to offer.

Penn State needs to worry about Penn State University right now and not Penn State Football. This scandal has shown a sports program that is out of control with kids being hurt for life. If I were in charge I would shut the football program down for 5 years and concentrate on the core of what Penn State is really about - academics.

Football is just a game - time to let it go for awhile.

Best Regards,
Wheaty

^ Pitch that idea to the young football players (who had absolutely NOTHING to do with the scandal) at the university currently and who got recruited to the university for this upcoming year, and let me know how that goes.

Yeap, he needs to make due with Cornell or Princeton, the other schools we toured this summer.

cbd, ask people who had Enron, or Lehman on their resume did in the job market. Most of them were completely innocent also. People are people and PSU is now tainted goods. Some will hold that against them.

Whenever you hear “Columbine High School”, what do you think of?

Answer: A horrific incident that happened approximately 15 years ago

When you hear “Penn State”, what will you think of 15 years from now?

I guarantee it will be this horrific scandal. That’s not going to be surmountable. Med826, have fun at your new school, and when you’re 35 and you’ve just received your 1,000th rip for having attended PSU, it will finally click.

I’m a huge PSU and Joe Pa fan, and this just breaks my heart.

@bagsboy “Yeap, he needs to make due with Cornell or Princeton, the other schools we toured this summer.”

The pretentiousness is slightly annoying.

From someone with U of Michigan and U of Minnesota ties, I want you to know I for one support the students and the institution of Penn State! You have done nothing wrong; mainly one twisted individual did the real harm. Yes, others should have intervened but that should not tarnish you.

We stand with you today; in your support. Keep your heads held high for your great University. Today - we stand with you in saying “We are Penn State”. My best wishes.

Well said “cbd”! It is unfair to judge the entire Penn State student community for the actions of the few. Yes, some students have behaved poorly, but those actions do not define the majority of the students. It is unfair to define the academics and other programs based solely on this incident. The actions and cover-up are despicable. However the guilty are only a handful of people and it is close minded to convict the entire school. As for the football team, why should they forfeit their next game, or pull out of the competition? They have done no wrong. They deserve to play and should not be punished for the actions of others.

Completely agree about the football team. They should play.

I really hope they throw a wrench into the BCS, win out, win the Big 10 Championship, have a lot of help with 10 teams above them losing horribly, and win the National Championship!!!

The football team will play on, and play proud!
