Penn State University Park Engineering

I am a 17 year old high school student hoping to apply to Penn State UP for engineering this fall. This has been a dream of mine as both of my parents attended Penn State and my father is an engineer. I am unable to find really any concrete stats on average admission into the engineering college so i was hoping that this community could help give me an idea if I could get in.

Weighted GPA: 3.9
Unweighted GPA: around 3.6
SAT CR: 650
M: 630
W: 570
total: 1850

I have taken all honors my entire highschool career and would have taken AP but my school doesn’t offer them. I did take 3 dual enrollment classes for Chem 2, Bio 2, and U.S. History which got me 10 college credits to a crappy school so despite the rigor, the credits probably will not transfer.

I’m aware ECs don’t matter much but I am a varsity football and track player with no prospects to play in college. I am part of an Envirothon Team which competes with nature trivia and on a regional winning Scholastic Quiz team. I am part of National Honors Society, the schools musical, and Forensics team. I have also been working for over a year at a Nursing Home as a Carehelper which is essentially a nurse aid without as many qualifications.

I really appreciate any feedback on this and any advise you could give me to increase my chances. Brutal honesty is always appreciated.

Right now, I’d say you’ve got a 50-70% chance of getting in. If u can, try improving senior year grades and retake the sat for atleast a 1900. Your legacy legacy is a standout, so use it in your essay. Other than that, you should be fine. Best of luck, man.

Apply for summer admission. That sometimes works if you are borderline. I hear summers are fun there. Apply before priority deadline.

I think you have a good chance at getting in, especially because of your double legacy! Maybe try and improve the SAT score for a better chance!

My son was accepted with very similar numbers. He heard the first week of January. He just finished his first year and has had a great experience so far. Good luck!

Hey Guys i appreciate the comments so much. Just telling you all that I did in fact get accepted to Penn State UP Engineering with intended major of Biomedical. Thanks for the help

Congrats!
