Hello everyone. I will be applying for Penn State University Park’s engineering program this fall. I am a white male and my
GPA is a 4.33. My SAT score is a 1690 with a 550 in math. I’m worried that despite my excellent GPA and class rank (3/1122) i wont gain acceptance. Im also heavily involved in extra curriculars, having a lead role in a musical, being a two year football captain, qualifying for states and nationals in debate, and making the state finals on my scholastic quiz team. What are my chances?
**Class rank is 3 of 122. sorry.
I also have taken ALL honors courses as well as 4 dual enrollment courses. Im scheduled to take 5 more duals this year
A 550 in math is below the PSU 25th percentile – not good for an engineering student. http://www.budget.psu.edu/CDSRedesign/cds.aspx?reportindicator=FreshAdmn&Location=UP&AY=20142015
The discrepancy between your high rank and your SATs might raise some eyebrows. Grade inflation? Little competition?
(Aside: Western or Eastern PA? I was also on my school’s quiz team. :P)
I strongly recommend you pretty much drop everything you are doing and study for that math section. One good book should shoot you over a 700 if you are a strong student.
i agree with the above posters; re-take the sat. everything else looks good though.
Thank you all. It was my plan to retake the SAT just wanted to get some peoples take on the matter. Already bought a SAT study guide and i plan on studying like my life depends on it! Again thank you
Also bodangles, my scholastic quiz team is from western PA:)
Eyyy me too. Maybe we played each other at some point. Good luck!!
Retake your SAT, you can definitely raise that with a little bit of work. I, too, am captain of a western PA quizbowl team. Did you ever compete at Battle of the Burgh?
