Penn State: University Park or CU Boulder?

I am currently completely stuck between where I should go. My major is Political Science. Any ideas and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated !

Penn State is better by most measures.

You know, for ug, I don’t think it much matters unless there is a niche program in one that isn’t in the other that interests you. So the cost and the one that you like better should be the two things that you weigh. Despite the scandals, the rah rah typical college scene is still alive at PSU, whereas Boulder is more layed back and isn’t as sports connected. Love both schools. I tend to be the Boulder type–love that city, the mountains are gorgeous. My kids are PSU without a thought.

I am very sports oriented person so maybe that gives Penn State a little bit of a leg up. I am just worried that the reputation of the school would indirectly have an effect on my finding a job after I graduate. I have two jobs as a senior and manage to maintaining a 3.8 average along with being an AP Scholar so I am not worried about not being qualified and doing well throughout my years in college. I just want to still have that competitive edge when it comes to the reputation of the school.

If reputation is what you are after goto Penn State

PSU’s current problems should not affect your job opportunities. Have you visited both schools? As cptofthehouse said, the atmosphere of the two is very different. In addition to being very laid back Boulder attracts a lot of athletic outdoorsy types. There is great hiking nearby. When my son visited they had a program called “Sleep to the Slopes”, i.e. bus runs to nearby ski resorts early Saturday mornings. I have heard that the bike paths get plowed before the streets. ;)

My son was in one of the “niche” programs that cptofthehouse referred to. If not for that, CU would have been my choice.

You really can’t go wrong with either school for most of the programs. Both excellent school. and both are on my high schoolers list. I eon’t think the problems that PSU are having are going to afect anyone’s education or job search. If you are a true football afficionado, the next several years are going to be painful for the football program, but CU is not going make up that gap. Very different schools in atmosphere

Actually the football team had a successful season with some great games, though no bowl game.
