So, I applied to University Park campus and was accepted fairly quickly ( I applied early November and received my decision in two weeks, compared with several others via CC). I was wondering if I had a shot at the selective honors school. This school does not require SAT’s to be admitted.
GPA: 3.97 UW /4.02 W (My school really doesn’t do much weighting.)
SAT: 1780 (620 CR, 560 M, 600 W) *Fairly low, but again, will not be used as part of admissions process
- Work experience: Work for an Amish newspaper company for the past six months.
- Summer events: Vacation Bible School leader, alter server for my church, participated in the National Youth & Government Conference on National Affairs
- Extracurricular(s): President of Student Council, Co-President of National Honor Society, President of local Youth & Government branch, editor-in-chief of the yearbook, Academic League co-captain, Choir, Select Choir, Drama Club (mainly major supporting roles), STAND Tall (drug and alcohol prevention group).
- Sports: Varsity Archer four four years.
- Volunteering: Junior year - Volunteered 2 hours/week at local personal care home. Senior year - Various activities, 15/month -Essays: Pretty good, considering the topics. More information can be found on the honor's college website regarding the three essay topics. -Recommendations: Recommendations from teachers (both AP teachers, one PSU alum), principal rec., she is a good friend of my parents, and one counselor rec.
Course Load (APs): 2 junior year, 1 sophomore year (all my school offered). Took four college courses online for credit, self-studying AP Gov. & Civ. this year.
AP: US History, Chemistry, and English Literature & Composition
Pennsylvania Public High School: Top 10% (6/61 students)
