Awesome recommendation.

I also applied as undecided. Thanks so much. I'll chance you back need be.

Anybody? (10 chars)

average GPA and SAT for penn state.. but hard courses will make up for that... so will the recommendations... i cant really say much on the ECs but if they are above average that is good..wat about the essay? is it required.. if its optional i would make one.. and talk about something 'you' make it heartfelt and memorable and your in for sure.. right now its a tossup.. unless there is some reason why they would really want you.. good luck

They have an option personal statement, I did it, I wrote about my summer job and diversity and how it was my lifelong goal do show my acceptance for others at PSU. I also applied for Summer and as Undecided, which is supposedly easier to get into, hopefully I'll get in. Thanks for the reply.

the personal statement should be less then 500 words.. and having 3 topics in one just waters down each one too much.. i would personally pick either the summer job or the diversity.. talk about that at relate it to why Penn state is the next logical choice.. diversity .. new ppl to meet, new stories to hear, idk something from the heart (those are cliches i know) it may sound hypocritical of me now but just by the sounds of it, it seems 'lifelong goal of showing acceptance of others at PSU' is very cliche.. and unless very personal and well written and 'deeper' i can see it being a possible turn off..

Well from what they told me at PSU, they said they dont even look at the statement or rec. letters. When I said I wrote all three of them, they were all intertwined, I wrote about diverse working environment. A couple of my friends got into with higher grades but much easier courseloads, so hopefully that will help.

Heyy,

Although I had better scores and stuff, I didn't take as many AP's as you did, and I got in a week ago to engineering. I think the fact that you're taking hard classes will appeal to them. It'll show them that you're up for a challenge even though you could attain a higher GPA through easier classes. I think your academic workload will help you stand out. Check out my past chances page, because I didn't have a plethora of EC's either.

Good luck!

do you live in pennsylvania? that's a big help, obv
penn state is all about numbers. that said, your current classes should impress them. i don't know how the ACTs work, but with SATs they only will take your best score from one sitting, so you can't combine math from one day and reading from another. so if you did that...you can't.
do a lot of kids from your school get in/go? that helps a lot too. i think you should have a chance though.

I actually live in NY so no luck there, but I applied for the easiest major, undecided, and would be willing to do summer or fall which should also increase my chances. And YES a lot of kids from my HS get into PSU- UP, I believe last year 40 students were accepted from a class of about 300 students. My counselor told me that I shouldn't have any problems getting in. I just hope I can in as it is my number one choice. I've kept in touch with a few admissions reps via email, visited the school and attended all PSU meetings in NY, I think I've showed them my interest in attending there. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
