Penn State UP? Very Worried, please respond :)

Hi everyone! This is my first post on College Confidential, but I've been reading other posts for a while now. Let me start by saying I have been stressing out for the past few months in regard to my college search and apps. Penn State is my #1 choice and I applied on Sept. 1st, the first day the application was available. I have been checking my penn state account pretty much everyday since September. I also applied to Pitt Greensburg (since it's close to home) and was accepted, but I don't really want to go there. I visited Penn State UP back in July for their spend a summer day and I fell in love. I'm all over the place with the field of study I want to go into. I've been going between business, pre-med, nursing... I have no direction, basically. I put marketing as my major choice on my app back in Sept, but I have a feeling that's not what I want to study anymore. I figured I wouldn't bother them during this busy time by contacting them to change it.

Currently, my application status on my penn state account reads "Your application is complete, all of your required materials are here, and we are reviewing your credentials. A decision will be available here as soon as one is made." It has said this for a couple months. My friend, who is our valedictorian, was accepted about a month or so ago. My stats are as follows:

Unweighted GPA: 3.690
Weighted GPA: 3.850
SAT combined: 1710
Class Rank: 23/208 (and it's probably higher now)
Extras: National Honor Society, MIC/SADD, Interact Club, Spanish Club, Relay for Life all four years of HS, work for Salvation Army, volunteer work at community events, student council for many years, private piano and guitar lessons for over 8 years, and private dressage lessons (disciplined english horseback riding)
*also, I have all AP, honors, or college in HS courses

Now, I indicated on my application that I wanted to start and end at UP. I also said that I would be willing to go for the summer session. The more that I think about it, the more I actually want to go for summer and maybe participate in the LEAP program. It sounds like a great idea and I've heard that people have really liked it up there during the summer. Also, I'd rather go to summer session at UP than to a branch campus for fall.

You have no idea how much I've been worrying about whether I will be accepted or not. It's really bothering me that I haven't heard back yet. Can someone give me an indication on whether they think I will make it in for fall or summer or anything? Any info you guys can give me on when I might hear back, the summer session, LEAP, past experiences, or whatever will be extremely helpful and will help ease some of the anxiety haha!

Thank you so much! :)

BUMP :)

Please read and respond I will be very grateful.

I got in with a 3.4 (uw) and a 1600 sat for fall. You should be fine.

does marketing mean you are applying to the business school? It may be easier to get into UP with a different major or undecided.

Wrestler203, okay. I really hope so. Thank you for responding! :)

And sax, I’m not sure exactly how the admission to Smeal works, but I know you can be a business major and not be accepted straight into the business school. Some people go for a year or so and are then accepted into Smeal.

You are right on the border for acceptance. Penn State releases this bubble chart each year to help predict your decision. (Blue is acceptance, Yellow is borderline/satellite) http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart.pdf

ArKhAiK,

I know I’m borderline, that’s why I’m so worried. If I elected that I would attend summer session, will that improve my chances of getting into UP?

Penn state is my #1 choice to I’m an international student 1830 on sat (690in maths 570CR 570writing) Sat subject tests 740maths level2 730physics 730chemistry I want to major in chem engineeringg please chance me very tensed

Keep in mind that Penn State UP changed the admissions policy for the nursing program this fall. It is now freshmen entry ONLY. This means that only those who applied to PSU’s nursing program out of high school will enter the nursing program. The nursing program does not accept transfers anymore.

Where would you want to do nursing, if you realize that Smeal isn’t for you, knowing that you cannot do nursing at PSU?

I got in with a 25 act, 1020 sat, and a 3.1 GPA. Maybe it was my essay that got me accepted or the fact that I’m a minority student from Miami applying to a mainly Caucasian university. Either way I’m 100% sure you’ll get in… Good Luck.

I got in last night with a 2.7 gpa, 2150 SAT (1430) and a 32 ACT. Barely any extra curriculars. I would think you’ll be fine.
