Penn state vs Pitt

Hello everyone. I am currently a senior and hoping to major in BME at an undergraduate level. I got accepted into both penn state ( main) and pitt but I am having hard time to Decide. Pitt is my first choice but it is kinda weird for me. First I didn't get into the Swanson school of engineering ( waitlisted), so they put me into their arts and science school with a possibility of transferring to BME if I maintain 3.5 GPA in the pre-req classes. For penn state, i got into the engineering school. Financially I'll have to pay around 7 to 8 thousand dollars more to go Pitt than penn state. Also if BME is not to my liking, then i will change my major to chemical engineering. So My questions is how is BME ( and chemical E) at both schools and which school is wiser for my circumstances?

I’m guessing that there isn’t a huge difference between the BME or ChemE programs at each school. Yes, Pitt is known for their Bioengineering program, but since PSU is cheaper, and you have already been accepted to their engineering department, that seems the way to go.

The other thing you might want to do is compare the curriculum for Bioengineeering at Pitt to the curriculum for BME at PSU to see if one program has a better course list than the other.

Without it being a sure thing at Pitt AND it being more expensive, I’d go Penn State for your situation.

How does Penn State cost 7k more than Pitt ? The cost of attendance should be equal at both unless one provided you some scholarship.

For bio engineering choose Pitt. For any other engineering, choose PSU.

^^^ The OP said it would cost more to go to Pitt, not Penn St.

The state related schools do not always have the same cost for each student. Pitt usually gives more in merit aid, but who knows for any specific student…
