I did go to PSU for two years. The journalism program was okay. The college paper they put out is pretty good as are the facilities, but the faculty really isn't anything special. If I were you, I would probably go with Pitt, epecially for sports journalism. Pitt gets a lot of local writers and broadcasters who come in and teach classes, so you have that current-first-hand experience. And like I said before, there are just so many opportunities in Pittsburgh. It is so easy to find a local station/paper for an internship, and you have so many different teams to cover. PSU might be alright if you don't mind covering one football team 24/7, but if you want some variety, I would go with Pitt. Their student newspaper (www.pittnews.com) is really popular and very well-run. I read somewhere that they run on a multi-million dollar budget. In terms of the overall programs, Pitt and PSU are very similar, so it just depends what kind of environment you want. If you're going to cover sports for a living, my guess is you would want to do it in a major city. Pitt offers you that opportunity.

One last thing, what did you major in and what are you currently doing for a living as a result of your degree and the position Pitt alumni put you in. Thanks again your info has been extremely helpful!!!!

Ryno26, I majored in engineering and politcal science (took a few writing courses, as well.) I was able to get an excellent paying job for a company back home in New York through a Pitt alum right after I graduated. Next fall I am going back to Pitt to get my MBA because that same company is offering me a big promotion after I get the master's.
