Need help! I committed to penn state and got scholarship of 20k, and have to start in summer. I just found out this week I got into Rutgers New Brunswick and got a full ride. Just have to pay for room and board. So in totality , penn state over 4 years is gonna be like 100k, and Rutgers is going to be 20k. Penn state is more prestigious than Rutgers, ranked higher, better alumni network etc. help!!! What should I do?
What can your family comfortably afford (no hardship, no loans)? If you go to Rutgers will you have money available for grad school etc?
I’d go with Rutgers. Penn State is not worth $80k over Rutgers.
Save your $80K for grad school. Don’t accrue a lifetime of debt just for a bachelor’s degree.
Can you afford Penn State without parents’loans?
If you can, then it’s entirely up to you, pick whichever you like best.
If you have to take on federal loans yourself (5.5K freshman year) it’s up to you - do you think the
better career services/alumni network is worth taking on that debt? Only you would know the answer.
If your parents would go into debt for you to attend Penn State, then pick Rutgers.
Attending summer session at PSU is an additional expense (room and board plus you lose out on the income earned from working).
PSU NOT worth it. Rutgers is an excellent school!
Unless your parents can easily pay the $100k for PSU, not worth it at all.

If you have to pay R&B at Rutgers for four years, how is that only $20k?
Rutgers website lists room&board as $12,260 per year. How do you turn that into $20K over 4 years unless you are living at home?
what is your major?
You’re debating whether or not to go to Rutgers or penn state because of prestige? You have a full ride at Rutgers which is a well known good school, and you care about prestige? Haha
