Penn Supplement

Hello, I'm applying Penn ED because I love Penn. Nevertheless, I am having trouble writing the supplement essay. I don't know how to start it off, and what to include. I feel overwhelmed. It doesn't seem possible to fit all of my thoughts on Penn within the 500 word limit. Does anyone else feel this way about Supplement essays? Also, any suggestions? Please don't post harsh or sarcastic replies (I know CC members are quite fond of this :P)

Perhaps try not worrying about the word count or format to start. Just ramble off all of the things that you would like to say or think you would like to say. Then look through it and see which seem most important to you and which could be tied together nicely and reflect how you feel or what you do. Cross out things that are not as important to you or things that you might be saying are the actually the same, only slightly different. Once you have the content you want to include, then focus on grammar and flow.

Not sure if this helps. I realize it is not really technical advice on essay writing. I was just trying to give you a method to get yourself started and on the path.

One of the essays about the Penn supplement, the one about why you want to go to Penn and what you can contribute, is partly designed to measure how much research you’ve done about the school (which is apparently a measure of how enthusiastic about their school). Do some homework, find out what about Penn’s attitude toward education attracts you, and then write about that.

For the other part, I can’t help you. It’s up to the individual.

I already know what I like about Penn. It offers a PPE major, a campus environment in an urban setting, and a diverse community. Is that too cliche?

Anyone can figure that out by looking at the brochure. Lots of colleges offer that. Dig deeper bro.

Look at a big book, like Fiske. That’ll help. Also, it helps if you attend one of their info sessions, they provide a lot of information.

I did attend the session. And not many colleges offer a PPE major. Do your research as well. :D

And info session was just like any other college information session. The tour was awesome. Lovely campus, amiable students, so many opportunities…if that’s too general then I’m not sure what else I can write. Penn just had a perfect touch of everything that no other college I visited offered. How specific do I need to make it?
